VAR technology will be applied in the match between Viettel and Hong Linh Ha Tinh.

According to VPF, to prepare for the application of VAR technology in an official match, VPF Company, the Tournament Organizing Committee, and the Referee Board have held working sessions to disseminate information related to the players and coaching staff of Viettel Club and Hong Linh Ha Tinh. In addition, Hang Day Stadium - the venue for the match - has also completed the inspection steps according to FIFA regulations, and the work related to measuring the field, integrating data about Hang Day Stadium into the virtual offside line system using artificial intelligence has also been completed.

VAR technology is about to be applied in V.League

Mr. Nguyen Minh Ngoc, General Director of VPF Company, Head of the Organizing Committee of Vietnam Professional Football Tournaments said: “In addition to disseminating all contents related to the organization, laws, and regulations of a match with VAR for the two teams, we also have working sessions with television partners and technical suppliers so that the requirements for a match with VAR as prescribed by FIFA are fully met. VPF Company is also coordinating with Viettel Club and the match organizers to ensure good organization for the match.

The Referee team assigned to work at the first match applying VAR technology between Viettel Club and Hong Linh Ha Tinh in Round 3, Phase 2 of Night Wolf V.League 1-2023 on July 27 includes: Main Referee Ngo Duy Lan; two Assistants Nguyen Trung Hau and Pham Hoai Tam; fourth referee Nguyen Ngoc Chau; VAR referee Mai Xuan Hung and AVAR Duong Huu Phuc. All six referees have attended the VAR Referee training course and have passed FIFA's assessment tests; Referee Supervisor Vo Minh Tri is also a lecturer of this VAR Referee Class. With careful preparation, VPF hopes that the first match applying VAR in the National Championship will achieve positive results, marking a historical milestone in the development of Vietnamese professional football.

The appearance of VAR in V.League will be a new breakthrough for the tournament.

For each match selected to apply VAR, VPF Company must complete the registration procedures with FIFA and select matches in accordance with FIFA's recommendations. The entire process of preparing and operating a match with VAR will be recorded and a report sent to FIFA. FIFA will monitor this entire process over the next three years.

VAR (short for Video Assistant Referee) is a form of advanced technology applied to support referees through video. VAR technology is used in football to help referees make the most accurate decisions through recorded video tapes. VAR is only used in the case of a "clear error" or "serious missed situation" related to: Goal/no goal; penalty/no penalty; direct red card (not a second yellow card/second warning); wrong identification of the offending player (in case the referee warns/yellow cards or sends off the player).
