According to information just announced by the Hanoi Statistics Office, the average CPI in the first 5 months of this year increased by 3.03% compared to the average of the same period in 2024.
In May, 8/11 CPI groups increased slightly compared to the previous month. These are: Housing, electricity, water, fuel and construction materials group increased by 0.88%, affecting the overall CPI increase by 0.18% (in which house rental price increased by 1.3%; other housing maintenance materials increased by 0.29%); culture, entertainment and tourism group increased by 0.34%, affecting the overall CPI increase by 0.02%; household equipment and appliances group increased by 0.16%, affecting the overall CPI increase by 0.01%.

The remaining groups did not have much impact on the general CPI, such as the beverage and tobacco group increased by 0.07%; the post and telecommunications group increased by 0.03%; the medicine, medical services andeducation groups both increased by 0.01%; and the other goods and services group increased by 0.27%.
Also in May, 3/11 CPI groups decreased compared to the previous month, including the transportation group decreased by 0.27% (affecting the overall CPI by 0.03%) due to the average monthly decrease in gasoline prices of 1.07%; diesel prices decreased by 2.33%; the food and catering services group decreased by 0.16% (of which food prices decreased by 0.29%) affecting the overall CPI by 0.05%; the clothing, hats, and footwear group decreased by 0.01%, not having much impact on the overall CPI.
On average, in the first 5 months of 2025, CPI increased by 3.03% compared to the average of the first 5 months of 2024.
Of which, 8/11 groups of goods increased, including the group of medicines and medical services increased by 16.74% (impacting the general CPI increase of 0.85%) due to the Hanoi People's Council issuing Resolution 45/2024/NQ-HDND stipulating specific prices for medical examination and treatment services at state-owned medical examination and treatment facilities under the management of Hanoi city, accordingly, the prices of medical examination and treatment services at hospitals in the city were adjusted to increase and apply new prices.
The housing, electricity, water, fuel and construction materials group increased by 7.31% (increasing the overall CPI by 1.49%), of which clean water prices increased by 4.78%; electricity prices increased by 4.96%; rental prices increased by 11%.
The culture, entertainment and tourism group increased by 3.95%, affecting the overall CPI increase by 0.19%.
The food and catering services group increased by 2.89%, contributing to a 0.90% increase in the overall CPI. Of which, food prices increased by 4.33%; eating out increased by 4.20%; and food increased by 2.21%.
The group of other goods and services increased by 5.14%, affecting the overall CPI increase by 0.18%) mainly due to the price of jewelry increasing by 44.20%; the price of health insurance services increased by 29.98%.
The remaining groups affecting the general CPI in the range of 0.03 - 0.11% are the garment, hat, and footwear group increasing by 1.87%; the beverage and tobacco group increasing by 1.69%; and the household equipment and appliances group increasing by 0.79%.
On the contrary, 3/11 CPI groups decreased compared to the average of the same period last year: transportation decreased by 3.61%; education decreased by 3.6%; post and telecommunications decreased by 0.82%.
The gold price index in May increased by 10.85% compared to the previous month, increased by 40.41% compared to December 2024 and increased by 56.54% compared to the same period last year. On average, over the past 5 months, the gold price index increased by 43.35% compared to the average of the same period last year.
The USD price index increased by 0.67% compared to April, increased by 2.59% compared to December 2024 and increased by 2.68% compared to the same period last year. On average, in the first 5 months of 2025, the USD price index increased by 3.41% compared to the same period last year.
