Iran's Fars news agency said that this transit railway of Iran will connect with Europe for the first time through the Miyaneh-Bostanabad-Tabriz railway project.

The connection with the railways of the Autonomous Republics of Nakhchivan, Yerevan and Tbilisi, through the Azerbaijani town of Julfa and other land and sea borders will increase international exchange and export of goods to Azerbaijan, Armenia and Türkiye.

Also according to Fars, the route from Tehran to Tabriz will be shortened to 114 km, while capacity will increase by 7 million tons of cargo and 2 million passengers/year.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi is said to have presided over the inauguration ceremony of the railway. Thanks to Tehran's efforts, the railway's construction was completed after a 22-year hiatus.

TRACECA includes the transport systems of 13 countries participating in the multilateral agreement on international transport for the development of the Europe-Caucasus-Asia corridor, including Azerbaijan, Armenia, Bulgaria, Georgia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Romania, Tajikistan, Turkey, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
