Hanoi's book and cultural space impresses at Frankfurt International Book Fair 2025

The 77th Frankfurt International Book Fair - 2025 has successfully concluded with the participation of thousands of publishers and works from all over the world. Vietnam participated in the event with more than 1,200 books from more than 20 publishers, spanning the fields of culture, history, literature, popular science, children's books, digital transformation and digital publishing.

The Book Fair was held from October 15 to 19 at the Messe Frankfurt Exhibition Center, Frankfurt am Main (Germany). This year, the Hanoi delegation led by Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Huong, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports, brought to the Book Fair many typical publications on the history and culture of Hanoi and Vietnam. The publications were introduced to promote the image of the country and people of Vietnam, especially the capital Hanoi, which is civilized, heroic, dynamic, creative, for peace and development.

On the morning of October 15, the Hanoi City delegation coordinated with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam Publishing Association and Ho Chi Minh City to organize the opening ceremony of the Vietnam Book Space at the Frankfurt International Book Fair 2025.

Attending the ceremony were Mr. Phan Tam, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Mr. Pham Minh Tuan, President of the Vietnam Publishing Association; Mr. Luu Xuan Dong, Consul General of Vietnam in Frankfurt; and Ms. Claudia Kaiser, Vice President of the Frankfurt Book Fair. The event also had Mr. Shake Faisal, President of the ASEAN Publishing Association and President of the Malaysian Publishing Association; Ms. Andrea Pasion Flores, President of the Publishing Development Association of the Philippines – the Guest of Honor of this year's Book Fair; and representatives of the Publishing Associations of the Philippines, Japan, the Netherlands and Bulgaria.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister Phan Tam emphasized that the Frankfurt International Book Fair is a symbol of creativity, dialogue and cultural cooperation - where cultures meet, listen and enrich each other. He said that the event is an opportunity to "bring Vietnamese books closer to global readers".

With the participation of more than 20 publishing units, Vietnam introduced more than 1,200 books, aiming to strengthen international cooperation in publishing, translation, copyright exchange; at the same time, expanding investment in digital publishing, e-books, audiobooks and international copyright platforms. Through this, Vietnam hopes to bring its stories to readers everywhere faster and more conveniently, affirming its position as a creative, dynamic and trustworthy partner in the global publishing community.

Also on October 15, the Hanoi delegation, together with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam Publishing Association and Ho Chi Minh City, had a working session with Ms. Claudia Kaiser, Vice President of the Frankfurt Book Fair. The two sides discussed the possibility of enhancing cooperation in upcoming book fairs, especially in the fields of copyright and translation, to promote the development of the publishing industry in Hanoi and Vietnam.

On the morning of October 16, the Hanoi delegation visited and worked with the Vietnamese Consulate in Frankfurt. On behalf of the delegation, Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Huong thanked the Consulate for its support to Hanoi delegations participating in the Frankfurt International Book Fair over the years. On this occasion, the delegation presented books to the Consulate to introduce to overseas Vietnamese in Germany the political, economic, cultural and social situation of the capital and the country.

In 2025, Hanoi will continue to participate in the Frankfurt International Book Fair with a 48m² exhibition space, located in the Asian countries area. Here, more than 100 typical books on Hanoi's history and culture, along with many unique tourism products, are displayed and promoted. The book space of Hanoi and Vietnam attracts a large number of international visitors, is a place to exchange and share publishing experiences, exchange copyrights and learn about Vietnamese culture and tourism.

During the Book Fair, Hanoi - Vietnam Book Space welcomed many international delegations and readers to visit and exchange. The event contributed to affirming the efforts of Vietnam in general and Hanoi in particular in bringing Vietnamese reading culture to integrate deeply with the world, while promoting the image of a creative and friendly Capital in the international community.
