Hanoi and Seoul promote cooperation in smart urban development

The forum is an opportunity for Hanoi to access Seoul's successes in renovating the Han River, digital urban management and modern urban space organization. Through that, Hanoi will gain more experience in implementing the Red River planning, promoting digital transformation and smart urban development and opening up future urban development cooperation.

On December 5, in Hanoi , the Hanoi - Seoul Urban Policy Sharing Forum was held with the participation of Korean Ambassador to Vietnam Choi Young San, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon and Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen. The event opened up opportunities to exchange experiences in urban planning, development and technology application, thereby strengthening cooperation between the two capitals.

Collaboration from successful development models

Speaking at the forum, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon expressed his impression of Hanoi's dramatic changes in recent times and believed that the capital will make further breakthroughs. He said that this forum focused on two topics that are Seoul's strengths and Hanoi's priorities, including cooperation in sharing experience in developing the Red River planning and building smart cities.

Mayor Oh Se-hoon recalled the experience of restoring the Han River, a highly successful project that has given Seoul a new look and improved the quality of life of its people. This model could become a suitable suggestion for Hanoi to apply in its Red River planning. In the context of widespread information technology and digital transformation, the two cities' exchange on the application of new digital tools in urban management and development is very timely and practical.

Sharing the same view, Korean Ambassador to Vietnam Choi Young San also highly appreciated the role of the forum. He emphasized that over the past 30 years, the Vietnam - Korea relationship has developed strongly, substantially and effectively in many fields, in which cooperation between Seoul and Hanoi is typical with the frequency of lively exchanges and delegations. The Ambassador hopes that the discussions at the forum will contribute to promoting the planning strategy for large inner-city rivers and opening up opportunities for common prosperity between the two countries.

Creating a foundation for deep cooperation

From Hanoi's perspective, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen affirmed that the relationship between Vietnam and Korea in general, and Hanoi and Seoul in particular, is built on the foundation of cultural similarities and development goals. Hanoi is entering a new stage of development with the whole country, requiring acceleration in urban management and innovation. This requires Hanoi to focus on improving the planning of the Red River in the direction of enhancing ecological landscapes and applying new technologies to improve people's lives, while creating development momentum as well as supporting the urban transport system.

Along with that, the city aims to promote digital transformation, form an innovative data integration center and move towards a smart and sustainable urban model.

Considering these orientations to be very close to Seoul, Mr. Nguyen Manh Quyen hopes that the two sides will continue to work together in the fields of digital transformation, smart city construction and urban planning. Hanoi also asked Seoul to consider the possibility of strengthening cooperation in implementing planning on both banks of the Red River and developing specific projects to serve the two localities.

The Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee believes that the discussion contents at the forum will contribute to perfecting the knowledge and practical foundation for the two sides to expand deeper cooperation channels in the coming time.

At the forum, representatives of the Seoul and Hanoi metropolitan governments exchanged experiences in urban transport planning, information technology application and digital transformation in city management. These initiatives are expected to create a foundation for deeper cooperation activities, in line with the trend of sustainable urban development in the region.
