Caring for sustainable development of members' lives
With the characteristics of the capital, Hanoi has a large population, rapid urbanization, many disadvantaged groups, the implementation of social support programs is of strategic significance. Through that, it will promptly help poor households in the area as well as households in difficult circumstances and help members stabilize their lives, enhance the role of the Association in patriotic emulation movements, and build a civilized and prosperous capital.
Head of the Propaganda Department of the City Veterans Association Nguyen Duc Hau said that sustainable poverty reduction and social security assurance are important pillars in the socio -economic development policy. For the Veterans Association, this work helps members and their families overcome difficulties, and at the same time, demonstrates the spirit of "mutual love and support", "the strong help the weak".
With a large number of war veterans living from the inner city to the suburbs, organizing social support activities is strategic. Thereby, ensuring the material and spiritual life of members, strengthening community ties and promoting the core role of the Association in patriotic emulation movements and building the capital; at the same time, making an important contribution to the city's poverty reduction work.
One of the main focuses of the Hanoi Veterans Association is to take care of the lives of its members, especially those in difficult circumstances, families of martyrs, war invalids and sick soldiers. The Association has implemented many practical forms of support, including the Association's "Warm Homes for Veterans" program, which has helped many members' families have stable housing, contributing to the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses.
In addition to housing, the Association also implements programs to support cash, Tet gifts, and scholarships for children of members in difficult circumstances. From 2020 to now, the Association has awarded hundreds of gifts worth a total of more than 4.7 billion VND, and at the same time, supported 237 breeding cows for members to develop their economy.
Health is a particularly important issue for war veterans, especially the elderly or those with war-related disabilities. The Association coordinates with medical facilities to organize regular medical examinations, health consultations, and medical support for members in difficulty. This helps improve the quality of life and reduce the medical burden for elderly members and long-term war invalids.
Movement of "Repaying gratitude" and "Mutual love and support"
The Hanoi City Veterans Association has been maintaining and developing social movements associated with the tradition of "When drinking water, remember its source".
The Association organizes delegations to visit and pay tribute to families with revolutionary contributions. These activities usually take place on War Invalids and Martyrs Day, July 27 every year, and on Lunar New Year, contributing to educating the younger generation on traditions. On the occasion of the War Invalids and Martyrs Day 2025, the Association met with 94 war invalids and war invalids, representing thousands of people throughout the city.
For the “Mutual Love and Support” movement, the Association has launched internal support models such as mutual assistance funds, interest-free loan programs or preferential interest rates to develop production and business. The total loan fund of the Association reached more than 2,970 billion VND, helping thousands of members to develop the economy, improve their lives and reduce poverty.
Along with that, the Association also coordinates with schools and local Youth Unions to implement revolutionary tradition education programs and award scholarships to poor students. This activity expands the Association's social impact, not only focusing on its members but also spreading to the young community.
The effectiveness of the Association's social security activities cannot be separated from the coordination with local authorities and social organizations. Therefore, the Association has coordinated with the Fatherland Front Committees of communes and wards to implement support programs, visit and give gifts, ensuring reasonable allocation of resources. The Association also mobilizes resources from businesses, philanthropists and charitable organizations to expand the scale of activities; coordinates with the Women's Union, Youth Union, and Association of the Elderly at all levels to organize health care programs, traditional education and community support.
This coordination helps the Association improve operational efficiency, avoid duplication, and at the same time, expand the network of communities participating in social security work.

Keep up the good work
In recent years, the Hanoi City Veterans Association has focused on applying new models in social security work such as: Community Support Fund, branches set up their own funds to help members in difficulty or carry out volunteer activities in the community. Economic Development Support Fund, the Association encourages members to develop household economy, agricultural production, service business, create jobs for local people. Applying information technology, the Association deploys member management through a digital system, easily updating information on difficulties, monitoring support effectiveness and calling for resources quickly.
Thanks to the concerted efforts, the Hanoi City Veterans Association has achieved many outstanding results, namely, supporting 1,227 houses, 237 cows, hundreds of gifts, medical examination and treatment, and scholarships for thousands of members in difficulty.
In particular, the Association of War Veterans in the business sector presented breeding cows worth nearly 20 million VND (by Hanoi Livestock Breeding Joint Stock Company providing breeding cows and technical support during the breeding process) to member Dao Van Hung (Chuong Duong commune). Although the material value is not large, it has shown the affection and responsibility of the staff and members towards the two families. Thereby, it has promoted the collective strength of the Association at all levels and localities, families, contributing to helping members reduce difficulties and strive to improve their lives.
The family of member Dao Van Hung was moved and very grateful for the affection, sharing, encouragement and help of the Association at all levels, local authorities...; at the same time, promised to continue promoting the tradition of the homeland, the tradition of "Uncle Ho's soldiers", educating children and grandchildren to always comply with the guidelines, policies, laws of the Party, State and local regulations.
The movements of “Repaying gratitude” and “Mutual love” are maintained regularly, creating a beautiful cultural feature of the community. Veterans Association members not only benefit directly but also become the core force in local charity and social activities. The Association’s activities contribute positively to the city’s social security policy, supporting the government in taking care of people’s lives.
Specific figures such as 36 billion VND for house repair, 2,970 billion VND for loan fund, support for 237 breeding cows... have clarified the level of influence and practical effectiveness of the Association. That shows that the Association not only launched the movement but also truly turned the spirit of "mutual love and support" into practical action.
Despite many achievements, the Hanoi Veterans Association still faces a number of challenges: Resources are limited compared to the actual needs of members, especially in the suburbs; coordination sometimes encounters procedural difficulties, leading to delays in implementing activities; some elderly members, with poor health, have difficulty accessing medical services and social support.
Therefore, the Association's development orientation in the coming time for this field is to expand resources from businesses, social organizations and individuals to increase support for members in difficulty. The Association continues to improve the effectiveness of coordination with the government and social organizations to quickly and effectively implement social security programs. At the same time, promote the application of information technology in member management and monitoring support results; encourage members to participate in economic development models, combining material support and improving self-reliance.
The support and social security work of the Hanoi City Veterans Association is a vivid demonstration of the sense of responsibility, camaraderie and humanity of Uncle Ho's soldiers. Activities to care for members' lives, support policy families and participate in social movements not only contribute to poverty reduction, improve the quality of community life but also educate traditions and promote profound human values.
In the coming time, with innovation and close coordination with social organizations and the government, the Association will continue to promote its core role in sustainable poverty reduction, ensuring social security, contributing to building a rich, civilized and humane capital.
