Food Safety Department issues urgent warning after seizure of 100 tons of counterfeit goods in Hanoi

In response to the recent case of Hanoi City Police dismantling a large-scale counterfeit goods production and trading ring, the Food Safety Department ( Ministry of Health ) recommends that consumers absolutely do not buy or use functional food products and related medical equipment, to avoid health risks and economic losses.

According to information from the Food Safety Department, on May 16, the Economic Police Department (PC03), Hanoi City Police, dismantled a large-scale counterfeiting ring of functional foods and medical equipment, seizing about 100 tons of counterfeit goods.

This ring was led by Pham Ngoc Tien and his wife Doan Thi Nguyet (both born in 1988, residing in Xa La Urban Area, Phuc La Ward, Ha Dong District, Hanoi ). Through initial investigation, the subjects confessed to having established 17 companies, including 6 companies specializing in importing and 11 companies with the function of distributing domestic goods. All of them served the production and consumption of counterfeit goods.

Regarding the incident, the Food Safety Department is coordinating with the Economic Police Department to review and provide information on products that have been declared as health protection foods of the above companies. The purpose is to serve the investigation and verification of the seized products.

The Food Safety Department emphasizes that consumers should not use any products with characteristics or packaging as shown in the images published in the press. In the coming time, after the official conclusion from the investigation agency, the list of violating products will be publicly announced on the Department's website for people to look up and avoid using.

Previously, on May 5, 2025, the Ministry of Health issued Official Dispatch No. 2657/BYT-ATTP to ministries, branches and People's Committees of provinces and cities, requesting to strengthen food safety management and prevent fake food. This Official Dispatch was issued based on the direction of the Prime Minister in Official Dispatch No. 41/CD-TTg dated April 17, 2025, requesting strict handling of acts of manufacturing and trading in counterfeit medicines and health protection foods.

Following that, on April 18, 2025, the Food Safety Department issued Official Dispatch No. 790/ATTP-SP requesting the Department of Health of provinces and centrally run cities, the Department of Food Safety of Ho Chi Minh City, the Food Safety Management Board of Da Nang City and local Food Safety and Hygiene Sub-Departments to strengthen inspection and post-inspection of fake and poor quality food products.

The Food Safety Department calls on consumers to be vigilant and choose products with clear origins and legal circulation licenses to protect their own health and that of the community.
