Director of the Civil Aviation Authority asked for early retirement due to health reasons.

Information from the Ministry of Transport said that Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam Dinh Viet Thang requested early retirement due to health reasons.

Previously, on December 9, Director of the Civil Aviation Authority Dinh Viet Thang submitted a request for early retirement due to health reasons.

According to the procedure, in order to have a basis to consider and resolve Mr. Thang's application for early retirement, the new Minister of Transport Tran Hong Minh has issued a written request:

The leadership and Party Committee of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam have given their written opinion on Mr. Dinh Viet Thang's wish to retire early due to health reasons.

Mr. Dinh Viet Thang provides records and documents related to the reduction of working capacity issued by competent authorities as prescribed.

Mr. Dinh Viet Thang was born in 1965, graduated from the University of the former Soviet Union with a degree in air traffic management. Mr. Thang received a master's degree in administration in Belgium, and is fluent in English and Russian.

Mr. Thang was transferred by the Minister of Transport from the position of Deputy Director of the Civil Aviation Authority to the position of General Director of Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation. Since September 1, 2014, Mr. Thang has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation.

From June 26, 2017, Mr. Thang was appointed by the Minister of Transport to hold the position of Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam until now.

A memorable milestone during Mr. Dinh Viet Thang's tenure as Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam was that the agency achieved a Category 1 (CAT 1) aviation safety supervision certification from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in February 2019.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam achieving FAA CAT 1 is a mandatory condition for Vietnamese airlines to open routes to the US. This is a very significant event, raising the position of Vietnamese civil aviation.

According to the reporter's investigation, in recent years Mr. Thang has had health problems and has had to undergo regular treatment. A few years ago, Mr. Thang expressed his wish to the leaders of the Ministry of Transport to retire early.
