Many schools in Hanoi have recently recorded a large number of students taking leave due to fever, cough, and respiratory infections.

Ms. Nguyen Le (45 years old) has a child studying in grade 9 at Luong The Vinh Secondary and High School (Hanoi) said that her child's class has 41 students, today 9 students were absent due to influenza A.

"Influenza A spreads quickly in crowded, closed environments like classrooms, making parents very worried. Every morning before going to school, I have to tell my child to wear a mask and limit close contact with friends during the outbreak," said Ms. Le.

In recent days, a primary school in Duong Noi ward has also recorded many cases of influenza A among students, affecting the learning situation. Some classes have only half the number of students attending school, the classroom atmosphere is much quieter and quieter than usual.

Another parent whose children are in grades 1 and 3 at this school said that her two children have been sick one after another and have had to stay home from school continuously since last week.

"After the older child recovered, it was the younger child's turn to get sick. A few days after the illness was cured, I heard news that another child had to stay home from school because of influenza A," she said.

Ms. HL (37 years old, Hai Ba Trung ward - parent of a child in kindergarten) shared: "My child had to stay home for nearly a week because of the flu. Every few days, we hear news that another classmate has been infected. Parents are very worried because the disease spreads so quickly."

MSc. Nguyen Dinh Dung - Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases said that influenza A is easily spread through the respiratory tract and can occur in all ages.

"The early stages of influenza A are quite similar to a cold, so it's easy to be subjective. However, the disease can progress rapidly, causing pneumonia or respiratory failure if not monitored and treated early," said Mr. Dung.

The important solution emphasized by experts is annual seasonal flu vaccination.

Dr. Dao Huu Than - Head of the Department of Infectious Disease Prevention, Hanoi CDC said that the flu vaccine has been proven safe, helping to reduce the risk of illness and serious complications.

Doctors recommend that parents should closely monitor their children's health during the changing seasons. In case of high fever, prolonged cough, difficulty breathing, loss of appetite, fatigue or rapid breathing, they should be taken to a medical facility immediately and avoid using antibiotics or antipyretics for a long time.

If someone in the family has the flu, they should wear a mask when in contact, practice good hand hygiene, limit sharing of personal items, and ensure the room is well ventilated. Sick children should stay home from school to avoid spreading the virus.
