Green models
In July 2024, Madam Van Restaurant (Hoi An Dong Ward) opened to welcome guests. With a business model based on community and nature, Madam Van Restaurant has become a unique 5-star service model, where diners feel the closeness and familiarity of traditional family meals with dishes prepared from local ingredients.
According to Mr. Le Hoang Ha, a member of Madam Van restaurant, in addition to using local raw materials, connecting the community and garden space, the obvious effect is reducing the impact on the landscape environment when taking advantage of the utility space of the house.
“When there are guests, the rooms will be cleaned, arranged for service, and then the space will be returned to the family for normal activities,” Mr. Ha shared.
With the lowest price of 300,000 VND/lunch or 400,000 VND/dinner, the restaurant welcomes an average of 30 guests per day, mostly foreigners.
After the Covid-19 pandemic, green development has become the main trend of Da Nang tourism and is spreading more and more strongly.
Many types of services from green destinations, green hotels, green resorts, green transportation, etc., to contents related to protecting ecological environment resources, adapting to climate change, connecting communities, ensuring harmony of social interests, etc. are widely deployed.
Many businesses and accommodation facilities are gradually changing their technological equipment, such as using solar energy, not using plastic bottles or nylon bags, using salt instead of chlorine in swimming pools, etc.
For example, at Silk Sense Hoi An Hotel, more than 10 years ago, green development was identified as a prerequisite in the unit's business strategy.
Mr. Tran Thai Do, owner of Silk Sense Hoi An hotel, said that right from the design stage, he established an ecological model for Silk Sense according to environmentally friendly criteria, such as arranging low construction density (30%), devoting a lot of space for trees; using AAC autoclaved aerated bricks instead of traditional red bricks; using the Inverter VRV4 Hot Water central air conditioning system with a condenser that does not release heat into the air but instead recirculates to help heat up for daily activities.
Even the swimming pool is treated with mineral salt instead of chlorine, and disinfected with ozone instead of chemicals… Business performance is quite positive, room prices increase, and the number of guests staying is higher.
Synchronize multiple solutions
Recently, green tourism transformation has been identified by Da Nang as one of the three pillars of the city's development by 2045, aiming to become an ecological, smart and livable city.
To realize this goal, in addition to issuing policies to encourage accommodation establishments to go green and reduce emissions, the city has strengthened international cooperation with organizations and academies with global training standards such as GSTC, Green Key... to gradually form a team of professional tourism human resources with the capacity to carry out real green transformation.

Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang Van Ba Son informed that the city is currently drafting a plan to improve the quality of tourism services in 2026 with a number of specific proposals, such as sorting waste at source, reducing single-use plastic, launching the movement "Hotels and restaurants without plastic waste" throughout the city...
In particular, research on incorporating green criteria into accommodation facility rankings, promoting green actions, and implementing the "Da Nang Green Tourism" brand aims to recognize and promote environmentally friendly businesses.
“With the above policies and orientations, a number of accommodation establishments such as Furama, TIA Wellness, Radisson RED, Muong Thanh... have voluntarily converted to green by applying solar energy, sorting waste at source, eliminating single-use plastics towards "net zero". These efforts show that Da Nang is moving from talking about green to actually doing green”, Mr. Van Ba Son affirmed.
Mr. Van Ba Son said that the city's tourism industry is focusing on building the project "Developing green tourism to 2030" with a vision consistent with local planning as well as the development strategy of Vietnam's tourism and international commitments.
The project aims to support businesses in green transformation; focus on developing alternative tourism products; promote communication and promotion; connect tourism - trade - industry - agriculture - culture product groups, create a sustainable development ecosystem, serving the city's overall green growth goal.
