According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , the European Union (EU) has a population of more than 450 million people, a GDP of 19,400 billion USD, is the third largest consumer market for agricultural, forestry and fishery products in the world and is currently the fourth largest export market of Vietnam, accounting for about 12% of the total export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products of the whole country.

In the first 9 months of 2025, Vietnam's agricultural, forestry and fishery export turnover to the EU reached 7.42 billion USD, an increase of more than 40% over the same period last year. However, Vietnam's exports only accounted for about 2% of the EU's market share, not commensurate with the potential and demand of this market.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Quynh Thien - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Vinh Long province said: It is expected that in 2025, the total export turnover of the province will reach 3.66 billion USD; of which, exports to the EU will reach about 455 million USD, an increase of 19.72% compared to 2024, accounting for 12.44% of the total export turnover of the whole province. Key products include: textiles, footwear (40%), coconut products (22%), seafood (20%) and agricultural products (10%).

Although the EU is a potential market, Vinh Long’s export proportion is still modest. In the coming time, the province will focus on attracting high-tech processing projects, creating a stable source of raw materials, meeting the strict requirements of the EU market.

Vinh Long has ideal conditions for developing key agricultural, forestry and fishery products.
