The race to increase capital in the banking industry is heating up.
The State Bank recently approved Vietnam Thuong Tin Commercial Joint Stock Bank (Vietbank) to increase its charter capital.
Accordingly, Vietbank is allowed to increase its charter capital by a maximum of VND 3,780 billion according to the plan approved by the Vietbank General Meeting of Shareholders at the 2025 annual meeting.
Of which, capital increase through issuing shares from equity capital is 1,071 billion VND, and through issuing shares to existing shareholders is more than 2,709 billion VND.
Vietbank said that the entire charter capital expected to increase is expected to be used for investment in fixed assets, information technology systems, supplementing business capital, expanding the operating network, etc.
Upon completion, Vietbank's charter capital will be increased from the current VND7,139 billion to nearly VND10,919 billion.
Before Vietbank, the State Bank also issued a document approving the National Citizen Commercial Joint Stock Bank (NCB) to increase its charter capital by an additional VND7,500 billion in the form of issuing individual shares to professional securities investors.
After the successful issuance, NCB's charter capital will increase from the current VND 11,780 billion to VND 19,280 billion.
This bank plans to implement a plan to offer shares to increase charter capital from the second quarter to the fourth quarter of 2025.
After the successful offering, this is the 3rd capital increase in 4 consecutive years (2022 - 2025) of NCB.
At the same time, NCB will surpass Sacombank (current charter capital of VND 18,852 billion) and Eximbank (VND 18,688 billion) to join the group of banks with higher charter capital than these two long-standing "giants".
Previously, on November 26, 2024, NCB completed the issuance of 617.8 million private shares, increasing its charter capital to VND 11,780 billion, strongly supplementing resources for breakthroughs in digital transformation, investment in facilities and business operations of the bank.
ACB increases charter capital, close to Agribank
The race to increase charter capital in the banking system continues to be exciting in the first half of 2025, when many banks simultaneously implement plans to issue shares with a scale of thousands of billions of VND.
Not only NCB, a series of other banks are also extending the list of banks that have significantly increased capital this year.
For example, in May, Asia Commercial Joint Stock Bank (ACB) received approval from the State Bank to increase its capital by nearly VND6,700 billion through the plan to issue shares to pay dividends.
After this issuance, ACB's charter capital will increase from VND44,666 billion to more than VND51,366 billion - approaching Agribank 's VND51,638 billion mark.
Another name that has just been allowed by the State Bank to increase its charter capital is Vietnam International Commercial Joint Stock Bank (VIB). According to the plan, VIB will issue nearly 417.1 million bonus shares to existing shareholders, equivalent to a rate of 14%.
At the same time, the bank will also distribute an additional 7.8 million bonus shares to officers and employees under the ESOP program, equivalent to a rate of 0.26%. The total charter capital increased after two issuances is more than VND4,249 billion, helping VIB's charter capital increase from the current VND29,791 billion to more than VND34,040 billion.
Increasing charter capital not only helps banks strengthen their financial foundations, but also expands growth space, invests in digital transformation, develops new products and enhances competitiveness in a business environment that increasingly requires high operational efficiency and flexible adaptability.
The bank has the largest and record charter capital in the system
Vietcombank is the bank with the largest charter capital in the system, with VND 83,557 billion, an increase of 49% compared to the end of 2024.
Previously, Vietcombank issued more than 2.76 billion shares to pay dividends to existing shareholders at a rate of 49.5%, thereby increasing Vietcombank's charter capital by VND27,600 billion.
VPBank ranked second in terms of charter capital, with VND79,339 billion, unchanged from the end of last year. Next were Techcombank (VND70,649 billion), and BIDV (VND70,214 billion, up 2%).
