On the evening of May 11, local time in the state of California - USA, in the warm atmosphere of "Mother's Day", a special art performance took place, marking the emotional reunion between two veteran cai luong artists: Phuong Lien and Le Thuy.
Singer Dinh Tri - son of People's Artist Le Thuy - said that the event not only bears the mark of artistic love but is also an opportunity for the audience to express gratitude to mothers - women who have silently sacrificed for their families and society. At the age of over 70, both artists still showed their style and deep emotions through the duet of the vọng cổ song "Con gai cua me".

Meritorious Artist Kim Tieu Long, who was present at the performance, said: "The two singers who once made a name for themselves on the cai luong stage, both female artists who won the famous Thanh Tam Gold Medal, now sang loudly in the auditorium full of overseas Vietnamese audiences, making many people unable to hold back their tears. Both of them are in their 80s, their health is not as good as before, but they are still loved by the audience. I am a junior, witnessing this reunion, so I am very moved."

Meritorious Artist Thoại Mỹ also performed in the program. She said this was a meaningful reunion, because the previous generation of artists is always a solid support for the next generation of artists. "Looking at the serious artistic work of the two ladies, we feel proud and follow suit, to live up to the public's affection for the artists. Even though they are nearly 80 years old, when they go on stage, they give their all with songs and excerpts from the once-famous cải lương" - Meritorious Artist Thoại Mỹ said.

Through the artist's personal pages, artist Phuong Lien emotionally shared: "I don't know when I will have another opportunity like this. Being able to sing with Le Thuy, being able to live again with the stage lights is a great happiness for me."
People's Artist Le Thuy also choked up: "We have been together in art for almost our entire lives. Every time we sing together, there are many memories. This time, standing and watching Phuong Lien sing, I couldn't hold back my tears, because I don't know if there will be a next time or not when we are both in our 80s. I don't know if I still have enough strength to take the plane to America, so I was very emotional during this performance."

The show was also a special occasion to celebrate the birthday of People's Artist Le Thuy - one of the great symbols of Vietnamese reformed theater. Amidst the enthusiastic applause of overseas audiences, she received a birthday cake and congratulations from colleagues and fans. Many white-haired audiences, driven by their children and grandchildren from other states, expressed their emotions when witnessing their two idols reunite through many ancient songs and excerpts that they loved.
The atmosphere was filled with love and gratitude, making the night sacred and memorable.
Indelible career marks
Artist Phuong Lien was once the main actress of major cai luong troupes such as Kim Chung, Da Ly Huong and Thanh Minh - Thanh Nga. She is known for her emotional, rustic and powerful singing and acting style. Classic roles in: "Doi Co Hanh", "Nguoi ven do", "Truyen co Bat Trang" ... have put her name in the ranks of the most talented artists of southern cai luong. Meanwhile, People's Artist Le Thuy - who was awarded the title of People's Artist in 2012 - is one of the outstanding cai luong singers with a career spanning more than six decades. She is famous for hundreds of plays, associated with classic works such as: "Nua doi huong phan", "To Anh Nguyet", "Cay durian tro bong", "Doi co Luu", "Dem lon chua hoang", "Song dai", "Tinh ma tu" ... and has been a good co-star of many big names in the theater industry.
One meeting – a lifetime of memories
The show "Mother's Day" is not simply an art program, but a place to recreate the golden age of the reformed theater stage of two great theater stars: Phuong Lien - Le Thuy.
The endless applause, tearful eyes and large presence of Vietnamese audiences overseas show the enduring vitality of Cai Luong - a national art form that has captivated many generations.
For the audience, this is an emotional reunion night. For the artists, it is a moment of returning to their passion, to the stage, where they have devoted their entire lives.
