To commemorate the 100th anniversary of Vietnam's Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025), the National Political Publishing House is launching the book " Shooting into the Air". (A collection of short plays) by Prof. Dr. Ta Ngoc Tan.
As a veteran journalist who once headed one of the country's largest journalism training institutions, the author avoids harsh or aggressive writing styles and instead employs a unique format – journalistic sketches that are concise, insightful, and subtly satirical yet deeply impactful.
The 94 short stories were written continuously over 6 years (2019 - 2024), arranged in chronological order. Each story addresses a social issue of concern and interest at the time of writing, yet remains highly relevant and has lasting significance.
The book's highlight is its blend of critical commentary and relatable, everyday language. At times, the author takes on the role of narrator; at other times, he embodies the two fictional characters, Phó Nhòm and Cả Nháy. Through short pieces such as: "Learning from Experience," "Fishing in Turbulent Times," "Giving and Asking," "Institutional Obstacles," "Junk SIM Cards," "Fake News is the Enemy," etc., readers realize that issues seemingly discussed too many times remain highly relevant because they have yet to be thoroughly addressed.
At the same time, the author does not forget to spread positive and humanistic values through articles such as "Miracles Do Happen," "Mothers Who Set Examples of Compassion," "Heartwarming," etc.
