Former youth volunteer Huynh Thai Binh (left, Long Thanh hamlet, Long Tri commune, Chau Thanh district)
Mr. Binh shared: “When the liberation was just over, roads, canals, and ditches were still very limited, making it difficult for people to travel and trade. In 1982, I volunteered to join the Youth Volunteer Force with the desire to contribute my youth to build my hometown. In 1985, after completing my mission, I returned to my hometown to continue working and producing.” When he returned to normal life , he cultivated over 0.4 hectares of agricultural land. Thanks to his diligence and hard work, he accumulated capital to buy more land for cultivation.
Up to now, his family owns 1.4 hectares of agricultural land, and their life is increasingly prosperous. Currently, he cultivates 0.9 hectares of red-fleshed dragon fruit, after deducting expenses, the profit is about 300 million VND/year. In addition, he also takes advantage of the area between the dragon fruit rows to grow 2,500 chili plants. On average, he harvests about 50 kg of chili/day, the income fluctuates according to the market price, contributing to a significant increase in the family's income. Not stopping at farming, he also develops the economy from the goat farming model, earning about 60 million VND/year. Recently, he boldly invested in switching to raising high-quality goat breeds with the expectation of improving economic efficiency.
Not only taking care of the family's economic development, Mr. Binh is also one of the typical individuals in the new rural construction movement in the locality. He regularly propagates and mobilizes people in the hamlet to voluntarily donate land, contribute labor and money to expand rural roads, take care of households in difficult circumstances,...
Mr. Binh always kept in mind: “Contributing to the common good is not only a responsibility but also a duty of each citizen to his homeland. For me, as a former Youth Volunteer, I must be more aware of my pioneering role, always taking the lead in activities, especially the New Rural Development movement.”
In 2020, he mobilized people to contribute more than 100 million VND to build Lo Dinh road in the hamlet with a length of 185m and a width of 2m. Most recently, he continued to mobilize the construction of a rural traffic route in the hamlet with a length of 1,100m 2 and a width of 3.5m, in which people donated more than 1,000m 2 of land, and he himself contributed 3 million VND. In addition, on the occasion of the full moon of January 2025, he mobilized 100 gifts for people in difficult circumstances with a total cost of 30 million VND.
