Ulises Davila, Kearyn Baccus and Clayton Lewis, who have been with the A-League for many years, were found to have deliberately received yellow cards to serve the betting community. Accordingly, these three players colluded with a gang in Colombia. After "receiving orders", they would deliberately commit fouls to get themselves yellow cards, thereby bringing profits to the Colombian gang - who bet on "many yellow cards" or Ulises Davila, Kearyn Baccus and Clayton Lewis to receive cards.

In return, Ulises Davila, Kearyn Baccus and Clayton Lewis received up to AU$10,000 (equivalent to more than 171 million VND) for each time they helped the gang win a bet. The total amount that Ulises Davila, Kearyn Baccus and Clayton Lewis pocketed amounted to hundreds of thousands of Australian dollars.

Ulises Davila, Kearyn Baccus and Clayton Lewis were involved in these shocking incidents in 2023 and 2024 before they were discovered. All players were suspended. Davila's contract with Macarthur FC, his last club, was terminated shortly after his arrest. Baccus was released by the Bulls during the 2024 off-season, while Lewis remains suspended.

Clayton Lewis is among those accused of manipulating yellow cards in matches in 2023 and 2024

The three were initially charged with “deliberately falsifying the results of a match” and “participating in a criminal gang”. But the latter charge was dropped. The three will face a final trial in September before receiving their sentence. But given what they have done, it is almost certain that they will not be able to play professionally again.

Of these three players, Ulises Davila spent four years with Chelsea. In 2011, Ulises Davila was welcomed by Chelsea from Chivas Guadalajara. At that time, he was shining for the U23 Mexico team with 14 matches and 5 goals. But during his years at Chelsea, Davila could not mature.

He was sent out on loan several times before being released in 2015. After that, Davila played for smaller clubs before shining in the Australian National Championship with 38 goals in 110 games despite playing as a midfielder. Unfortunately, Davila's career was cut short because he was involved with gangs.
