- In recent times, Lang Son forestry sector and organizations and individuals have proactively developed many sources of quality forestry tree varieties, thereby contributing to improving the resilience of trees and bringing high economic value from forests.
On November 10, we were present at Cuu Long Lang Son One Member Co., Ltd. (Huu Lung commune) - a relatively large seed production unit of the province. The company currently has a high-tech factory, a tissue culture area and an outdoor forestry nursery area.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Hue, representative of Cuu Long Lang Son Company Limited, shared: Every month, the company produces and supplies to the market nationwide from 3 to 3.5 million forestry seedlings. In recent years, we have focused on producing new tree varieties such as Eucalyptus DH 32-29, UP99, Eucalyptus Urophylla U6 and Acacia hybrids AH1, BV16, BV523... Focusing on high-quality tissue-cultured varieties with origins recognized by the province helps us meet the requirements for quality seedlings of forest growers.
Present at another long-standing forestry seedling production facility, Phong Van Agricultural and Forestry Service Cooperative (Phong Van Cooperative, Dinh Lap Commune), we witnessed nurseries with hundreds of rows of seedlings planted in straight, green rows. These are young pine seedlings sown from seeds, meticulously cared for by the Cooperative's workers, waiting for the day to reach the standard to be exported to the garden, transferred to forest growers.
Mr. Hoang Van Phong, Director of Phong Van Cooperative, shared: The Cooperative has been operating for many years and currently has 7 members. The Cooperative mainly produces pine seedlings from seed sowing. Every year, we supply the market with about 1.5 million trees, and this year we expect to reach an output of about 2 million trees. The Cooperative always identifies itself as a bridge between high-quality, recognized seed sources and forest growers, so it always focuses on ensuring the quality of seed sources.
The above are just 2 of nearly 740 forestry seedling production facilities in Lang Son province. In recent years, each year, facilities in the whole province produce and supply from 310 to over 380 million forestry seedlings, bringing in a value of over 250 - 300 billion VND. Varieties include: Pine, Acacia, Eucalyptus, Anise, Cinnamon, Ladder... and some other native tree species. From the beginning of 2025 to now, the facilities have produced and sown over 210 million trees, of which 160 million trees are qualified for export.

The development of forestry varieties is not only reflected in quantity but also clearly shown in the types of seed sources that are recognized and still valid. If in 2022, the whole province only had 17 seed sources that were recognized and still valid, then up to now there are 31 seed sources. Of which, 13 seed sources provide cuttings and grafted branches of Acacia and Macadamia species; 16 seed sources provide seeds of Pine, Cinnamon, Anise (with grafted eyes), So; 1 seed source provides cuttings of Thanh Mai trees; 1 seed source provides asexual propagation materials of Lat Hoa trees).
According to the assessment of the Provincial Forest Protection Department and professional agencies, the quality of seed sources is basically guaranteed to serve the production of seedlings.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Loan, Deputy Head of the Forest Protection Department of Lang Son province, said: Diversifying genetic resources and forest tree varieties from familiar Acacia and Pine to native species such as Anise, So, and Tram, is of great significance. It not only meets the requirements of multi-purpose forest planting but is also a solution to increase the ecological resilience of forests to pests and climate change. Specifically, the number of recognized seed sources increases year by year, which is a positive result, helping seedlings meet growth requirements and produce the highest yield.

In order to increase the quantity and quality of forestry seedlings, in recent times, the provincial forestry sector has regularly reviewed forestry seedling production facilities throughout the province, and at the same time, promoted facilities, families and individuals with quality seed sources that meet the conditions for seed source recognition to submit documents to competent authorities for recognition. The provincial Forestry Sub-Department also coordinated with relevant levels and sectors to participate in research and application of scientific topics on forestry seed varieties...
On the part of forest growers, the diversification of seed sources has promoted the process of restructuring forestry trees; people have been actively focusing on tree species with high economic value, creating jobs and bringing in more stable income. For example, the recognition of seed sources for high economic tree species such as Macadamia and Star Anise is a strategic step. Although Macadamia is a new crop, the recognition of cutting sources helps people confidently invest. Similarly, Star Anise (with recognized seed sources) and Cinnamon (produced and planted in the first 6 months of 2025) are specialty trees that bring sustainable profits...
Ms. Hoang Thi Nien, Con Quan village, Dinh Lap commune said: My family has nearly 30 hectares of forest with Pine, Acacia, Eucalyptus. In previous years, buying floating varieties caused the forest to develop unevenly. Since the introduction of new varieties (Pine, Acacia, Eucalyptus), with high productivity and quality, the trees have become more resistant to pests and diseases, better able to withstand weather changes and grow and develop faster, giving higher yields and a more stable income. For example, in the past, if we planted the old Eucalyptus variety, it would take about 6-7 years for my family to harvest, but if we planted the new variety, it would only take about 5 years.
This shows that the attention to diversifying forestry seed sources is the right direction, not only contributing to increasing forest value, bringing stable income to people but also contributing to the good implementation of the province's sustainable forestry development strategy.
