- In the context that the whole country is promoting the movement to build a learning society and develop a reading culture among students, Luong Ngoc Tu, a student of class 11C, Ba Son High School (Ba Son commune, Lang Son province) has become the pride of the difficult border commune in particular and Lang Son province in general when he excellently won the noble title "Outstanding Reading Culture Ambassador 2025" - the highest title of the National Reading Culture Ambassador Contest 2025. This is also the first time Lang Son province has had a student achieve this title and is one of the four best representatives of all levels awarded by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) at the Closing and Awarding Ceremony of the National Reading Culture Ambassador Contest 2025, taking place on October 30, 2025 in Hanoi.

From a school in a border area where learning conditions are still limited, Tu's journey is not only a personal story but also a living testament to the power of passion for reading, contributing to spreading reading culture to remote areas.
Journey of "passing on the fire" from the difficult border area
Born in 2009, Luong Ngoc Tu is a Tay ethnic female student from Ba Son commune - a border commune of Lang Son province with mountainous terrain, difficult transportation and challenging socio-economic conditions. Luong Ngoc Tu grew up in an environment closely connected to the highland village. As a member of the 11C Youth Union, Tu not only has good academic performance but is also a dynamic example in collective activities.
Besides, Tu is also a member of the school's History team, where he strives to improve his knowledge and share experiences with friends, creating a lively learning atmosphere. And the top secret for him to be able to study well is reading books. Luong Ngoc Tu shared: I came to books very naturally. At first, I just read for entertainment, but gradually I felt that books were like close friends. Each book gave me a new perspective, a lesson and a new emotion. The more I read, the more I love books because books help me understand more and live more positively. To me, books are teachers, a treasure trove of knowledge, is a companion in study and life. Thanks to books, I learn how to live humanely, know how to dream and dare to try. Each page of a book is like a lamp illuminating my path, helping me grow up every day.
With that love, Luong Ngoc Tu participated in the provincial reading culture ambassador contest with all her efforts. With her drawing ability, she illustrated her story with her own handwriting in a natural, simple, sincere and emotional style of a highland student. Along with that are solutions to promote reading culture in the highlands, with practical experiences from the experiences where she lives.

At the end of October, Luong Ngoc Tu, surpassing more than 155,000 high school exams from nearly 8,700 educational institutions nationwide, entered the national finals with an impressive exam, affirming his love of books and ability to inspire. The title "Outstanding Reading Culture Ambassador 2025" - the most prestigious award of the contest awarded by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, recognized him as one of the four best representatives, representing the spirit of self-study, creativity and spreading reading culture among young generations nationwide.
The 2025 Reading Culture Ambassador Contest, organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with ministries, branches and localities, aims to arouse the passion for reading, promote the reading movement in schools and communities, and contribute to building a learning society. After 4 months of implementation, the contest attracted nearly 1.2 million entries, with 519 excellent entries reaching the finals (404 articles and 115 videos). As a result, the Organizing Committee awarded 15 collective prizes and 140 individual prizes, including 4 titles of "Outstanding Reading Culture Ambassador". |
In Lang Son, the provincial competition was also conducted systematically, attracting thousands of entries from schools. The provincial finals proposed 37 individual prizes, including 1 collective First Prize and many outstanding individual prizes sent to the central level, contributing to bringing 1 First Prize (typical title) and 1 Third Prize for the province.
Tu's achievement is not only a personal joy but also a motivation for the entire Ba Son High School - a border school with more than 90% of students being ethnic minority children, where books sometimes have to travel through muddy roads to reach the students.
Teacher Le Anh Trang, Secretary of the Youth Union of Ba Son High School, shared: Tu is a special student, not only good at studying but also very active and responsible. As the deputy class representative of the art class and group leader, he is always a bridge connecting the group, especially in activities to practice ethics and life skills. The achievement at the Reading Culture Ambassador Contest is a worthy reward for Tu's efforts. He not only reads books but also "lives" with books, spreading his passion to friends in this difficult border area. We are proud of him and will continue to support Tu to develop further.

Ms. Pham Minh Hanh, Deputy Director of Lang Son Provincial Library, affirmed: Lang Son Province has paid great attention to implementing the Provincial Reading Culture Ambassador Contest seriously and systematically, from the propaganda stage to the final round. Through that, we have selected high-quality entries, reflecting the true passion for reading of students. Especially, for a border province like Lang Son - where there are many remote, isolated and extremely difficult areas - Tu's achievement is a great source of encouragement. We will continue to promote activities such as building community bookshelves, organizing mobile reading seminars, to arouse and maintain a sustainable reading culture movement, helping students overcome difficulties to reach knowledge.
Awakening aspiration, spreading passion
Luong Ngoc Tu's story is not only a beautiful chapter in the journey of conquering knowledge of students in the border area but also a reminder of the power of reading culture. In the 2025-2026 school year, with achievements such as the second prize at the provincial level "Ambassador of Reading Culture", and the activities of the Youth Union, Tu continues to be an example of civic awareness and responsibility. In his role as an "ambassador", thanks to the help of teachers, schools and Lang Son Provincial Library, Luong Ngoc Tu has set out plans for propaganda campaigns, spreading the spirit of loving books and reading culture to schools in the province, especially schools in remote areas where access to books is still difficult. Along with that are practical activities such as calling for book donations for school libraries, aiming to support vulnerable groups in society such as people with disabilities, students in difficult circumstances... so that they have more opportunities to access knowledge from books.
For her part, Luong Ngoc Tu modestly shared: I was born and raised in Ba Son commune, where books were not always easily accessible. But since childhood, I have loved books through the Tay folk stories that my grandmother told me. The Reading Culture Ambassador Contest is an opportunity for me to share my self-study journey, from reading history books to joining the team to using books to inspire my friends. I promise to continue to spread the reading culture at school and in the village, so that everyone can "fly high" thanks to knowledge.
From the border area of Lang Son, Tu's journey conveys the message: No matter where you are, books are still the key to open the door to the future. And with "Ambassadors" like him, reading culture will continue to spread, contributing to the implementation of the Party's policy on building a learning society and practically "studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style".
