From July 1st, 2025, Phu Quy officially became the only special economic zone of Lam Dong province. The establishment of the special economic zone opens a new phase of development in governance, with a more streamlined and professional government apparatus, serving the people more effectively.

This is a significant political event, creating great confidence and expectations among the people for a sustainable future development of the island.

The Phu Quy Special Zone was established by merging three communes: Long Hai, Ngu Phung, and Tam Thanh, with its administrative and political center located in Ngu Phung commune.

The special zone has a natural area of 18 square kilometers and a population of approximately 32,000 people. It is located 56 nautical miles (about 120 km) southeast of Phan Thiet port. Phu Quy has a strategically important location in the East Sea and great potential for developing marine economy and tourism.

Locals expect that once Phu Quy becomes a special economic zone, it will have its own management mechanism, creating momentum for effectively exploiting its strengths in tourism and marine economy.

Mr. Le Minh Suong, a resident of Phu Quy Island, expressed his desire for a special policy to be implemented soon to further develop the tourism industry; he also requested that the central and local governments continue to provide support policies for fishermen to venture out to sea and contribute to affirming national sovereignty over the islands.

Right from its opening days, the Phu Quy Special Economic Zone Public Administration Center has operated efficiently and has been highly appreciated by the people.

Mr. Tran Huynh (Long Hai commune) shared: “I find the officials very professional, welcoming to the public, and quick and convenient in handling procedures. I hope the government maintains this working style to better serve the people.”

Mr. Vo Van Vang (Ngu Phung commune) said: “Procedures related to land and house ownership documents are handled quickly and efficiently. This greatly facilitates the development of the Phu Quy Special Economic Zone.”

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Linh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Phu Quy Special Economic Zone, the government has proactively prepared since June, completing infrastructure, selecting competent officials, and ensuring that when the special economic zone becomes operational, it will function smoothly and serve the people well. The special economic zone's administrative model allows commune-level authorities to directly handle matters, listen to and promptly address feedback, especially regarding resources and the environment.

Phu Quy's marine economic strengths continue to be affirmed with key sectors such as offshore fishing, aquaculture, and seafood processing for export. These sectors are generating high added value, creating stable jobs, and promoting the shift in the local labor structure. Alongside the marine economy, tourism has been identified as the second leading economic sector.

Phu Quy boasts a rich marine ecosystem, pristine landscapes, fine white sand beaches, unspoiled coral reefs, and a unique fishing culture, making it an attractive destination for both domestic and international tourists.

With the official opening of the special economic zone, the people and authorities of Phu Quy Island have high expectations for a period of strong and sustainable development, improving the lives of people in the coastal region and contributing to the firm protection of the sovereignty of the nation's sea and islands.
