Universities pay Tet bonuses to lecturers of 10-50 million VND

Ho Chi Minh City Many universities pay Tet bonuses to lecturers ranging from 10-50 million VND, an increase compared to last year because the basic salary - the basis for calculating income, will increase from July 2023.

By January 18, many universities in Ho Chi Minh City had announced Tet bonuses for lecturers and employees, at least one month's salary or one month's income (salary, teaching allowance, other income). According to the schools, this policy is similar to previous years, but the actual amount received by each lecturer has increased due to the basic salary increasing from 1.49 to 1.8 million VND.

The Tet bonus fund for 1,500 staff and lecturers of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry this year is the highest ever, more than 50 billion VND. Each person receives a monthly salary of 13, plus 15 million VND. Depending on the salary, each staff and lecturer receives 28-48 million VND.

"The Tet bonus is a recognition for employees, so the school balances revenue and welfare funds to increase the Tet bonus for lecturers," said Dr. Phan Hong Hai, the school's principal.

At Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade , Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hoan, Principal, said that the Tet bonus is equal from the principal to the employees at 25 million VND per person, an increase of 5 million VND compared to last year.

This is stipulated in the school's internal spending regulations with the 13th month income payment. In addition to the Tet bonus, the school will give each person a lucky money of 3 million VND at the beginning of the year, with department heads getting double.

Dr. Nguyen Tan Tran Minh Khang, Vice Principal of the University of Information Technology, Ho Chi Minh City National University , said that this year the school will give Tet bonuses to 350 lecturers and staff, totaling about 7 billion VND. On average, each person receives 15-30 million VND.

"The bonus policy is similar to last year, but the total fund for Tet bonuses for lecturers increased by two billion because this year the number of people increased and the monthly salary of lecturers increased," said Dr. Khang.

At Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education, each staff and lecturer receives a monthly income and 25 million VND. On this occasion, the school spent nearly 60 billion VND to reward more than 1,000 people.

According to Decree 60/2021 of the Government , the financial results of the year are allocated by the school to four funds, including Career Development Fund (minimum 25%), Income Supplement, Rewards and Welfare; Other Funds. After establishing the four funds, the remaining difference between revenue and expenditure is added to the Career Development Fund.

Schools have ensured that all or part of their regular expenses are allocated 1.5-3 months of salary and wages in the year to the Reward and Welfare Fund. Therefore, schools often support staff and lecturers with one or two months of income on the occasion of Lunar New Year, called "Tet bonus".

In the private sector, the Tet bonus will be based on the agreement in the labor contract and the school's spending regulations. This year, Nguyen Tat Thanh University will maintain the same bonus level for staff and lecturers, each person will receive 1.5 times their monthly income, similar to last year.

Dr. Nguyen Quoc Anh, Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology , said that the Tet bonus is based on internal spending regulations, one month's salary per person, the lowest being 10 million VND.

The Tet bonus policy has not been finalized yet, but Dr. Vo Van Tuan, Vice Principal of Van Lang University , said that during Tet, employees will receive a 13th month salary and a bonus of at least one month's salary. The bonus level for each person is different depending on the job position and work results.
