National sports festival must focus on Olympic and ASIAD sports

On March 20 in Hanoi, a delegation from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism led by Deputy Director Nguyen Nam Nhan reported to the leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Department of Physical Training and Sports on the plan to host the 10th National Sports Festival in 2026.

Accordingly, the leader of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City said that he has drafted a project to organize the 10th National Sports Festival and is reviewing competition venues in Ho Chi Minh City and localities expected to co-host such as Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Tien Giang , Binh Phuoc...

Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Nam Nhan said that according to the draft project which is in the process of collecting comments, sports will be divided into 4 groups including: Group 1 is sports in the Olympic competition program, group 2 is ASIAD sports, group 3 is sports regularly competed in SEA Games, group 4 is ethnic sports, modern sports with development trends.

Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Training Dang Ha Viet spoke to note the issues of the 10th National Sports Congress in 2026.

The host city, Ho Chi Minh City, expressed its desire to complete the project soon and finalize the specific competitions so that the provinces and cities can plan to build their forces according to Vietnam's Sports Development Strategy, focusing on developing key sports. This will both prepare the best forces for the congress and create an abundant supply for the national teams.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong highly appreciated the timeliness, proactiveness and positivity of Ho Chi Minh City and emphasized that the city's sports have always been among the top in the country, having led many times at the National Sports Festival. Therefore, hosting the festival will have special significance, creating momentum for the city's sports to return to their peak, contributing more to Vietnamese sports.

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong closely directed the tasks to be achieved at the 10th National Sports Festival in 2026.

The Deputy Minister requested that relevant units urgently and proactively deploy and complete tasks early so that localities have time to prepare their forces. “The Department of Sports and Physical Training is requested to coordinate with the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City to review documents and try to complete the draft project in April to report and submit to the Prime Minister for approval. In June, the Department of Sports and Physical Training and specialized departments will continue to coordinate with the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City to complete the framework regulations as a basis for localities to have the best preparation. The more complete and early the implementation process is, the more favorable and successful the organization process will be,” said Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong.

The Deputy Minister also noted that the selection of events to be held at the congress must follow the development orientation of Vietnamese sports, aiming at the Olympic and ASIAD arenas as in the spirit of the Conference on Development of High Performance Sports chaired by Minister Nguyen Van Hung that was recently held. The Deputy Minister also emphasized that the drafting of the project to host the congress must also pay attention to tasks such as food and accommodation arrangements, ensuring conditions for security, health, anti-doping, etc.
