On the afternoon of November 15, New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam Caroline Beresford had a friendly meeting with reporters in Ho Chi Minh City, and provided more information about the NZUA government scholarship that this country has implemented exclusively in Vietnam.

Recently, Education New Zealand (ENZ) announced the New Zealand Government Undergraduate Scholarship (NZUA) exclusively for Vietnamese students.

This is a cooperation initiative between the New Zealand Government and universities in this country, with a total value of nearly 3.2 billion VND.

The NZUA 2025 Scholarship includes 14 scholarships, each worth NZD 15,000 (about VND 227 million), applicable when enrolling at one of eight New Zealand public universities, including the University of Auckland, Auckland Technology, Massey, Waikato, Victoria Wellington, Canterbury, Lincoln and Otago.

Applications for the scholarship are expected to open in May 2025, for the February 2026 intake. Details on eligibility and application criteria are expected to be announced in February 2025.

Sharing the reason for choosing Vietnam to implement the NZUA scholarship, New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam Caroline Beresford said that Vietnam is a priority market for New Zealand's international education services.

The new scholarship programme will make New Zealand more attractive for Vietnamese students to study.

In addition, Vietnam, along with a number of Pacific countries, is being prioritized in New Zealand's foreign and trade policies, receiving a lot of investment.

In 2025, Ambassador Caroline Beresford informed that Vietnam and New Zealand will celebrate the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations, thereby creating more opportunities for cooperation at all levels.

The New Zealand Prime Minister is also expected to make an official visit to Vietnam next year, along with businesses from many fields coming to Vietnam.

"Of course there will be education in the visit, because this is the jewel in the crown of the relationship between the two countries," said Caroline Beresford.

New Zealand offers scholarships from high school to postgraduate

Prior to the NZUA scholarship, New Zealand also launched the NZSS government scholarship for students in grades 8, 9 and 10 in Vietnam who want to study high school in New Zealand.

In addition, this country also has a full Manaaki scholarship for Vietnamese candidates to study postgraduate programs.

Thus, New Zealand is currently one of the few countries that offers government scholarships specifically for Vietnamese students, covering all levels of education from high school to postgraduate.
