At the 2025 Chess World Cup, Le Quang Liem made history by defeating Karthik Venkataraman in the second leg of round 4, thereby entering round 5 of the tournament for the first time in his career on the evening of November 12.
This achievement of Le Quang Liem not only received praise from domestic media, but also stirred the world chess community.
ChessTV, a prestigious international chess website, posted a very detailed article praising Vietnamese chess players.
Beginning by describing Le Quang Liem as "the man who has carried Vietnamese chess for the past decade", the article on ChessTV then predicted that he would "bring more hope for the development of Vietnamese chess".
"This World Cup journey marks a new chapter in a career defined by consistency for Le Quang Liem. He became a Grandmaster at just 15 years old in 2006.
In Vietnam, a country where chess is growing but is not yet an official sport , Le Quang Liem's achievements are extraordinary. He is an iconic face for the Vietnamese people, an inspiration for young players," Chess TV commented.
In this article, ChessTV also thoroughly reports on Le Quang Liem's journey through the first four rounds at the Chess World Cup, and expresses confidence that the Vietnamese player will continue to go far.
This is the first time Quang Liem has entered the 5th round of the Chess World Cup. His previous best results were 4th round, in the 2013 and 2019 tournaments.
It can be said that through the achievements of Le Quang Liem, Vietnamese chess players are increasingly seen by the world chess community with different eyes.
On the afternoon of November 14, Le Quang Liem will enter round 5 - facing German player Alexander Donchenko.
