Recently, Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital ( Quang Ninh ) received a patient for a digestive examination. However, during the examination, the doctor unexpectedly discovered that the patient had rectal cancer.

Accordingly, about half a month ago, patient TVB (born in 1961, residing in Bac Son ward, Uong Bi city) often had red blood in his stool but did not have abdominal pain, fever, or weight loss. Thinking he had hemorrhoids, the patient did not go to the doctor.

Due to the condition of bloody stools not improving, at the end of December 2022, the patient went to the Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital for examination and was prescribed a colonoscopy by the doctor.

Through endoscopy, the doctors found an ulcerated lesion about 3cm from the edge of the anus, about 30mm in size, with jagged edges and a dirty, crumbly pseudomembrane at the bottom. They biopsied 6 pieces of the lesion and sent them for pathology. The pathology results were determined to be moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma; the patient was then hospitalized for treatment.

Or like the case of patient N.D.L (born in 1946, residing in Trung Vuong ward, Uong Bi city) who had hemorrhoids for many years and recently often had bloody stools.

Thinking that the hemorrhoids were still recurring, the patient bought medicine to take on his own, but the condition did not improve. After that, the patient went to the hospital for examination and was prescribed a colonoscopy.

During endoscopy, doctors discovered an infiltrative papilloma lesion in the sigmoid colon that caused partial narrowing of the colon circumference over a section of about 3cm long. A biopsy of the lesion was sent for pathology. The pathology result showed moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma and hospitalization was indicated.

Bloody stools are a very common condition in cases of gastrointestinal examination at Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital.

This condition is a common manifestation of lower gastrointestinal bleeding. Some cases of upper gastrointestinal bleeding such as bleeding gastric ulcers can also have bloody stools.

In which, lower digestive bleeding can be caused by reasons such as: colorectal cancer, hemorrhoids, anal fissure, diverticular bleeding, small intestine bleeding...

These diseases will have different prognoses and levels of danger, but the diseases are easily confused, so patients are often subjective and do not go to the doctor immediately when they have unusual symptoms.

Therefore, doctors recommend that people with symptoms of abnormal bloody stools, abdominal pain, weight loss... should visit a medical facility, should not be subjective, and avoid letting the disease reach a late stage, causing difficulties in the treatment process.
