Deputy Director of Ha Tinh General Hospital, Mr. Le Ngoc Thanh informed that Ha Tinh General Hospital is assigned to be the unit to collect and produce blood products for medical examination and treatment at medical units throughout the province. Currently, the hospital has 300 blood units in stock, meeting half of the plan and demand of medical facilities.
It is expected that by the end of May 2025, the hospital will need about 1,000 units of blood. However, up to now, the hospital has not received a specific voluntary blood donation plan from units and localities according to the program from the beginning of the year of the Ha Tinh Voluntary Blood Donation Steering Committee. Due to difficulties in collecting blood reserves, medical examination and treatment work is at risk of being affected.
Master Hoang Quoc Anh, Head of the Department of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, Ha Tinh General Hospital, informed that on May 13, Ha Tinh General Hospital received patient Nguyen Thi H. (88 years old, residing in Thach Kenh commune, Thach Ha district) with severe anemia, needing a blood transfusion. However, her family and relatives are not of the right age to donate blood, while the hospital's blood bank is also in a state of scarcity, not enough to perform a blood transfusion for the patient. In that situation, nurse Tran Thi Hien - Department of Treatment on Demand volunteered to donate blood to help the patient.
“To address the shortage of blood, from the beginning of May 2025 until now, Ha Tinh General Hospital has mobilized doctors, nurses, and patients' relatives to donate more than 170 units of blood to serve emergency and treatment work at the hospital,” added Master Hoang Quoc Anh.

Explaining the shortage of blood reserves, Master Hoang Quoc Anh said that since the beginning of the year, the hospital has only received nearly 3,500 units of blood, much lower than before. The reason is that many localities have not yet organized blood donation programs according to the schedule allocated from the beginning of the year by the Provincial Voluntary Blood Donation Steering Committee. In addition, the number of patients has increased, especially seriously ill patients, so the demand for blood is also quite large.
Statistics from the Ha Tinh Voluntary Blood Donation Steering Committee show that in 2025, the whole province strives to mobilize 9,520 units of blood. As of early May, units and localities in the area have organized 13 blood donation campaigns, of which the Provincial General Hospital has collected 3,336 units of blood in 11 blood donation campaigns. Compared with the plan established at the beginning of the year, there are still some localities that have not organized blood donations, so the Steering Committee is urging and requiring localities to properly implement the plan and targets assigned at the beginning of the year.
According to insiders, up to now, the organization of blood donation campaigns has been assigned to the Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation at the provincial, district, city, and town levels and the organizing agencies and units.
However, from July 2025 onwards, the district, town and city administrative units will no longer exist, so the Ha Tinh Voluntary Blood Donation Steering Committee and local medical facilities need to proactively develop clear plans and alternative solutions to avoid the risk of breaking the blood mobilization chain from the community. In particular, medical facilities proactively invest in equipment, vehicles and human resources to be ready to deploy mobile blood donation plans from the province to the village; strengthen and expand voluntary blood donation "channels", establish more live blood banks, build a network of blood donation volunteers, etc.
