Dak Lak: Mobilizing more than 12,300 officers and soldiers to provide relief to flood victims

As of the afternoon of November 20, the Dak Lak Provincial Military Command had mobilized more than 12,300 officers and soldiers to provide relief to people in flooded areas.

On November 20, in the face of prolonged heavy rains, floods on rivers rose rapidly and exceeded many historical milestones, Colonel Phan Dai Nghia - Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of Military Region 5, was present at the scene, directly directing mobile forces to respond and overcome the consequences of floods in Dak Lak province.

According to the Provincial Civil Defense Command, from November 15 to 19, the rainfall reached a very high level, with many places measuring 900 - 1,400mm, causing deep flooding, widespread isolation and threatening the safety of thousands of households. Water levels on the Ba, Tam Giang, Ky Lo and Ban Thach rivers all exceeded alert level 3; some locations even exceeded the flood peak of 2009.

Faced with the critical situation, Military Region 5 directed the Dak Lak Provincial Military Command to mobilize more than 12,300 officers and soldiers, 60 vehicles of various types, 57 high-capacity motorboats and thousands of rescue equipment. Specialized motorboat teams moved through the night, approached isolated areas, and safely evacuated 505 people from the danger zone. The police, border guards and local militia closely coordinated to ensure absolute safety for the people.

The whole province currently has more than 3,000 flooded houses, many areas are isolated in Tuy An Bac, Tuy An Dong, Dong Xuan, Xuan Phuoc... A total of 3,917 households/9,945 people were evacuated to safety before the flood hit.

At the scene, Colonel Phan Dai Nghia requested the forces to: Continue to review key points, proactively develop rescue plans according to flood levels; absolutely not let people go hungry or lack clean water; quickly deploy mobile vehicles to take people to safe shelters; maintain communication, ensure logistics and military medical work in all directions.

Military Region 5 also prepared rescue helicopter landing and take-off positions, ready to receive air support forces when more complicated situations occurred; at the same time, it developed a master plan to help localities overcome the consequences of floods, prioritizing agency headquarters, hospitals, and schools to soon return to operation.
