On March 19, the working delegation of the National Assembly's Committee on Science, Technology and Environment conducted a survey to review the Draft Law on Railways (amended) in Dak Nong province. Reporting to the working delegation, in the past, Dak Nong 's transport infrastructure has received attention, but due to limited resources, investment has not been synchronized and transport infrastructure is still limited.
In 2024, the Gia Nghia (Dak Nong) - Chon Thanh ( Binh Phuoc ) Expressway Investment Project was approved by the National Assembly. Currently, the project is completing procedures for implementation, creating a great driving force for Dak Nong in particular and the Central Highlands in general.
Mr. Le Trong Yen, Standing Vice Chairman of Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee, said that the province has large bauxite reserves and many enterprises have submitted investment documents for bauxite mining and processing with a very large total registered capital. To create a breakthrough, Dak Nong province proposed that the working group make recommendations to the competent authorities to promote investment in the railway connecting the Central Highlands region.
In particular, Dak Nong proposed to prioritize the construction of the Dak Nong - Chon Thanh railway to connect with the Trans-Asia railway to Thi Vai port, serving the transportation of alumina, refined aluminum and post-aluminum products.
The province proposed to study and add the Dak Nong - Lam Dong - Binh Thuan railway line to the national railway plan. This railway system will also help transport agricultural products and other products, contributing to promoting socio-economic development.
Railway investment is also the desire of the representative of Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (TKV), the unit that invested and put into operation Tan Rai Alumina Plant (Lam Dong) and Nhan Co Alumina Plant (Dak Nong) at the working session. The railway will contribute to reducing pressure on roads, reducing transportation costs and environmental impacts in exporting alumina and products.
The working group basically agreed with the proposal of Dak Nong province and TKV. Mr. Ta Dinh Thi, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Science, Technology and Environment, said that the survey trip aimed to grasp the actual situation and railway investment needs of Dak Nong in particular and the Central Highlands in general.
The working group requested Dak Nong province to continue researching and contributing to the Draft Law on Railways (amended). Dak Nong and its units need to complete the report on the need for railway investment, clarifying the issues: whether to invest or not, investment plan, implementation time and support policies. The group will compile these contents to submit to competent authorities for consideration.
