At this time, grade 12 students in the province are entering a period of intensive review to prepare for the 2023 high school graduation exam. However, this is also the time when the weather is experiencing many erratic and harsh changes. To ensure the safety of staff, teachers, and students and to cope with hot weather and thunderstorms, theEducation sector has directed high schools to implement many measures to ensure safety for teaching and learning.
To ensure the best conditions for 12th grade students to review, the Department of Education and Training has directed high schools to proactively adjust the time of organizing review classes, avoiding the peak hot time of the day, prioritizing only studying in the morning, studying earlier and ending before 10:30, if organizing afternoon classes, starting after 14:30; notify parents of review classes to coordinate management and pick up students.
At the same time, proactively review, repair, supplement, and replace lighting equipment and cooling equipment such as electric fans, air conditioners, and ventilation fans; block the sunlight from classrooms; increase drinking water for teachers and students in classrooms; proactively develop response plans to ensure the safety of staff, teachers, and students when thunderstorms, localized heavy rains, tornadoes, lightning, and strong gusts of wind occur.
The Department of Education and Training and its affiliated units have issued documents requesting the electricity departments of districts and cities to fully supply and continuously maintain power sources for schools to ensure safety and effective organization and quality of teaching and review activities for students in hot weather conditions.
Following the direction of the Department of Education and Training, high schools in the province have promptly implemented measures to ensure exam preparation conditions and safety for students and teachers. Tran Phu High School, Vinh Yen City currently has 11 classes with 434 grade 12 students studying for the exam. The school has completed the inspection, review, and consolidation of facilities and equipment, ensuring the best conditions for teaching and learning.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Phuong, Vice Principal of the school, said: “To ensure facilities and safety for students and teachers during the review process for the 2023 high school graduation exam, right before the closing ceremony, the school reviewed, inspected and consolidated the electrical system, lighting equipment, and cooling equipment in classrooms; contacted and coordinated with professional units to review all trees in the school grounds to cut, prune, and remove rotten and damaged branches to avoid trees breaking or falling during storms.
At the same time, arrange a reasonable timetable, avoiding the hottest time of the day. Currently, review classes are mainly held in the morning and only 3 afternoons/week, morning classes end before 10:30 am, afternoon classes start after 2:30 pm.
With the view of ensuring the best conditions for 12th grade students to study with peace of mind, Sang Son High School, Song Lo district has seriously implemented measures to ensure facilities and safety in accordance with the direction of the Education sector.
Teacher Nguyen Van Tho, the school's principal, said: "Currently, the school has 11 classes with 409 grade 12 students studying for the exam. To ensure the power supply in the school, the school has proposed to the Department of Education and Training to send a document requesting Song Lo Electricity to ensure adequate supply and maintain continuous power supply for teaching and learning.
Regarding classrooms, the school has rearranged the locations of the 12th grade classes, choosing classrooms on low floors, shaded by trees, and airy. In classrooms currently used for exam preparation, in addition to the existing ceiling fan system, the school has installed some additional wall fans to ensure adequate cooling. The school also arranges the class times according to the recommendations in the Department of Education and Training's instructions.
With the best care and conditions, students and parents of grade 12 students feel secure with the careful preparation of the schools. Ms. Le Thi Huynh, parent of a student in grade 12A8, Vinh Yen High School said: "The weather this year is extremely hot, so I am very concerned about ensuring the best conditions for my child to study and prepare for the upcoming exam. However, when I learned that the school always focuses on ensuring the health and safety of the children at school, I feel very secure."
Despite the harsh weather conditions, with the attention and best conditions of the Education sector and the proactiveness of schools in ensuring the health and safety of students, 12th grade students will be able to review with peace of mind, enter the 2023 high school graduation exam with confidence, and achieve the highest results.
