Donana Lagoon is completely dry due to prolonged drought. |
This is the second summer in a row that the lagoon has been in such a state. Spain's National Research Council said such a situation has never occurred at the Donana lagoon since it began collecting data 50 years ago.
The park has a diverse ecosystem and is home to many endangered wildlife species such as the Iberian lynx and the Spanish imperial eagle. UNESCO considers this park in southern Spain an important biosphere reserve and a tourist attraction.
