Professors from Carnegie Mellon University (USA), Australian Machine Learning Institute, National University of Singapore... will attend AI Day 2023.
AI Day 2023 is a prestigious event in the field of artificial intelligence in Vietnam co-organized by VinAI and New Turing Institute, scheduled to take place at The Global City (HCMC) from December 5-6.
The event is highly anticipated by the Vietnamese AI community because it brings together many of the world's leading speakers and AI experts. With the theme "AI Redesigning Reality", the technology community can directly meet and exchange with experts in the global AI field.
Professor Martial Hebert - expert Robotics and Computer Vision
Professor Hebert is the Dean of the School of Computer Science, Carnegie Mellon University (CMU, USA) - the school that always leads the world rankings in artificial intelligence of US News & World Report.
Previously, he was the Director of CMU's Robotics Institute, leading more than 800 members including professors, researchers, students, and staff and contributing to the Institute's operating budget reaching its highest level ever.

Professor Hebert owns a "fortune" of research such as: creating the first master's program in computer vision in the United States; building algorithms to process 3D data from distance sensors for obstacle detection, environmental modeling and object recognition applied to the project of developing self-driving cars (the precursor to self-driving cars); leading research programs in the field of automatic systems, including autonomous robots on the ground and flying in the air; researching and developing technology to help the elderly and people with disabilities live more independently...
His research is highly influential, with more than 60,000 citations. His H-index, an index that measures the influence and contribution of a scientist, is 121 (the average H-index of scientists elected to the US National Academy of Sciences is 45).
At AI Day 2023, Professor Hebert will share the challenges and solutions in deploying AI systems in the real world, based on the latest research from seven departments in the CMU School of Computer Science.
Professor Simon Lucey - Computer Vision Cognitive Research Expert
Professor Simon Lucey is the Director of the Australian Institute for Machine Learning (AIML) at the University of Adelaide, which is also the largest Machine Learning research institute in Australia. From 2009 to 2014, he held key positions in many organizations, typically: professor at the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU, USA); participating in research and development of self-driving cars at ArgoAI.
In academia, Professor Lucey has published over 300 papers, receiving over 14,600 citations. His research focuses on Computer Vision, Machine Learning, and Robotics. He has also applied for 11 patents in Computer Vision.
Participating in AI Day 2023 this time, Professor Lucey will present Neural Priors, a concept and direction that helps AI models remember and integrate existing knowledge to help predict and make better decisions.
Professor Anton van den Hengel in Machine Learning
Professor Anton van den Hengel holds a number of positions in the Australian academic community. He currently directs the Center for Reinforcement Reasoning at the Machine Learning Institute (University of Adelaide) and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of South Australia.
Professor Anton van den Hengel has more than 400 research papers and an H-Index of 75. He researches many important topics and is trusted by multinational science and technology funds such as Google and Facebook to provide financial support of 60 million USD.
During his career, Professor Hengel has won many awards such as the 2021 Australian AI Service of the Year Award, the Pearcey Foundation Entrepreneurship Award, the Outstanding Scientific Research Award for Research Collaboration, and the 2010 CVPR Conference Outstanding Research Award. He runs 5 companies, holds 8 patents, and has a medical technology that is FDA-cleared.
At AI Day 2023, Professor Anton van den Hengel will speak about Continuous Learning, an algorithm that helps computers continuously learn to cope with the world's constant changes. The talk will present some recent advances in Continuous Learning, including the use of AI models to predict possible changes and generate training data to help them cope with those changes.
Professor Christopher Manning - researcher at Stanford
Professor Chris Manning is the Director of the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (SAIL) and Co-Director of the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI). His research focuses on deep learning and natural language processing, which enable computers to have human-like sensitivity to language and to understand, process, and generate intelligent content.

He is also co-author of the leading textbook Statistical Methods in Natural Language Processing (1999) and Introduction to Information Retrieval (2008).
His achievements include outstanding research awards at many leading conferences such as ACL, Coling, EMNLP, and CHI. In addition, his online sharing session on Natural Language Processing with Deep Learning at CS224N received hundreds of thousands of viewers.
Professor Manning's talk promises to bring new directions and future advances in the field of large language models (LLMs) to the research community at AI Day 2023.
Associate Professor Dr. Angela Yao at National University of Singapore
Although his teaching career has not been long, Associate Professor Dr. Yao has achieved admirable results. The expert is currently in charge of the Computer Vision and Machine Learning research group, developing research on analyzing human movements through the eyes of machines at the National University of Singapore (NUS).
With a PhD from ETH Switzerland, Associate Professor Dr. Yao has many successful projects in the field of pattern recognition and data analysis. In 2008, she received the Pattern Recognition (DAGM) award in this field. She also received additional funding for Artificial Intelligence research on image and video processing from the National Research Foundation of Singapore and several large corporations such as MoE Singapore, AI Singapore, Meta and Huawei.
At AI Day 2023, the expert will present algorithms for recognizing and analyzing human behavior, based on sample action processes, promising to bring many new perspectives to the technology community participating in the program.
