On January 6, Mr. Trinh Hoan Cau - acting chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh Tri commune, Tan Hiep district, Kien Giang province - said that Thanh Tri commune had just had a case of a stepfather abusing his wife's stepdaughter.

Accordingly, Mr. Ng.VL (32 years old, residing in Thanh An 1 hamlet, Thanh Tri commune, Tan Hiep district, Kien Giang province) has been living with Ms. NNQ (30 years old) for over a year.

Ms. Q. has a daughter named Ng.TN (6 years old). Recently, Mr. L. often beats N. when he is drunk.

Mr. Cau admitted that the incident was discovered late by the local authorities, causing N. to be abused by her stepfather, resulting in many injuries. Currently, the local authorities have contacted the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Tan Hiep district to ask for support and protection for the child.

"We are currently waiting for the results of the child's injury assessment. The locality has also developed a plan, assigned departments and organizations, and worked with the hamlet to support child N. Initially, we took the child to the commune health station for a health check, provided school supplies for the child to go to school, and provided milk for the child," said Mr. Cau.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Du - Chief of Tan Hiep District Police - said that after receiving the information, the unit worked with Mr. L. Tan Hiep District Police also took the child for disability assessment.

"The other day, I invited Ms. Q. (N.'s mother) to work because she was involved in another incident. At that time, I saw that N. was injured on the forehead. However, Ms. Q. said that N. had fallen. After that, social media posted that N. had been abused, so the police force stepped in to collect information. When the results of the assessment are available, we will handle it according to regulations," said Lieutenant Colonel Du.
