On the evening of May 17, PVF-CAND Club welcomed Truong Tuoi Binh Phuoc in round 19 of the 2024 - 2025 National First Division.

This is a crucial match for PVF-CAND, because if they win against Binh Phuoc, coach Thach Bao Khanh and his team will narrow the gap on the rankings, thereby raising the hope of rising to take second place from their opponents and winning a play-off spot for promotion to the V-League.

In the first half, against Binh Phuoc, who were rated higher, PVF-CAND proactively pressed high and made it very difficult for the opponent to develop the ball from home.

The home team's efforts left Cong Phuong and his teammates with very few opportunities to attack. Binh Phuoc's biggest star was closely marked and did not have a single bright opportunity.

Although they were able to suppress Binh Phuoc, PVF-CAND themselves were not really better in attack. Although they had a few chances, it was not easy for Coach Bao Khanh's students to convert them into goals.

The two teams maintained a stalemate until the middle of the second half when a turning point occurred. In the 71st minute, defender Nguyen Khac Vu of Binh Phuoc received a second yellow card and had to leave the field.

With the advantage of more players, PVF-CAND increased pressure on the away team's field and put the ball into Binh Phuoc's net after a chaotic situation in the 83rd minute.

However, the home team's goal was not recognized due to a previous foul.

In the context of teammates having to huddle together to defend, Cong Phuong became the biggest hope on Binh Phuoc's attack line.

He had a rare moment of dribbling into the PVF-CAND penalty area in the last minute but could not pass the ball to his teammate to finish.

As the match entered extra time, PVF-CAND continued to attack but to no avail. Long-range shots from Thai Ba Dat and Nguyen Thanh Nhan were not powerful and accurate enough to defeat Binh Phuoc goalkeeper Bui Tan Truong.

Meanwhile, Ho Thanh Minh had a great chance to face Tan Truong but could not hit the ball.

Drawing 0-0 against Truong Tuoi Binh Phuoc despite having more players, PVF-CAND could only blame themselves.

After round 19, PVF-CAND and Truong Tuoi Binh Phuoc are ranked third and second in the rankings with 34 and 41 points respectively. Binh Phuoc has played one more match. The first division has only 3 rounds left. With a gap of 7 points, PVF-CAND's chance of playing in the play-off for promotion to V-League is almost gone.
