Training high quality medical human resources

By the end of April 2025, the Party Committee of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy had 754 Party members, including civil servants, employees, trainees and students, operating in 29 affiliated Party cells. The Party Committee of the University consists of 15 comrades, the Standing Committee consists of 5 comrades.

In the 2020-2025 term, the Party Committee has resolutely and promptly restructured the units under the school to ensure streamlining and efficiency; focusing on recruitment, training, fostering and remuneration to develop an increasingly strong staff. Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy and Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital are effectively implementing the level 2 financial autonomy mechanism.

The University of Medicine and Pharmacy has developed strongly in training high-quality medical human resources for the Central and Central Highlands regions and the whole country. The school is training 11 regular undergraduate majors, 5 regular joint majors, 6 part-time joint majors and 105 postgraduate majors. In the period of 2020-2025, the school always maintains the training scale, reasonable occupational structure, meeting and anticipating social needs. The school successfully inspected the quality ofeducational institutions in the second cycle (June 2022); successfully inspected the quality of the bachelor's program in medical laboratory technology according to the quality assurance standards of the ASEAN University Network (AUN-QA) in July 2023; Completed mid-cycle reports on pharmacy, nursing, public health and educational institutions training programs, cycle 2. The school is implementing a self-assessment plan for 4 medical training programs according to AUN-QA standards, with the expected external assessment date in July 2026.

The school's Party Committee also leads the promotion of scientific and technological activities, strengthens applied scientific research tasks to solve practical problems, and links scientific research with training, medical examination and treatment, and community service. During this period, the school completed the acceptance of a ministerial-level scientific and technological program; 7 typical research groups of the University were approved to implement and operate in the medical and pharmaceutical fields.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Vu Quoc Huy, Party Secretary and Principal of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, shared that the university's team of scientists has won many awards in science and technology, notably: Ho Chi Minh Prize for Science and Technology (6th term, 2021); 1 First Prize at the National Technical Innovation Contest (2023); 4 clusters of works by 4 groups of authors won the 4th Ancient Capital Prize for Science and Technology of Thua Thien Hue Province (now Hue City) (2021), 1 First Hue Ancient Capital Women's Creativity Award...

In the period of 2020-2025, despite being greatly affected by the global COVID-19 pandemic, thanks to proactively and flexibly changing cooperation methods, the school's international cooperation work has still been effective. The school is consolidating, maintaining and expanding cooperative relations with many international partners, signing 63 cooperation documents with foreign universities and organizations; welcoming 368 international delegations to work, exchange, teach and cooperate in research, medical examination and treatment; receiving 920 foreign students to visit, study and research. At the same time, 450 staff members were sent on business trips abroad, attending international and regional seminars and conferences, many staff members went on long-term postgraduate studies; successfully organized 31 international events...

The leadership of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy focuses on developing the Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital into a grade I hospital with 700 beds and specialized level, becoming a prestigious address for medical examination and treatment for people in the region and the whole country and serving practical training for students. The proportion of the school's staff participating in the work at the University Hospital is nearly 40% compared to the total number of people working at the hospital, which is a characteristic of the "School - Institute" model. Through annual hospital quality inspections, Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital always achieves more than 4.0/5 points.

Thanks to innovation in leadership thinking, the Party Committee of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy oriented the family doctor clinic to focus on perfecting the management mechanism, maximizing resources to perform well the task of continuous health care and comprehensive treatment according to the principles of family medicine. In addition to medical examination and treatment, the clinic plays the role of a clinical practice facility for students and trainees.

Towards "School - Institute" of international standards

The Party Committee of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy sets out specific goals: Building the Party Committee of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in a comprehensively strong direction, affirming the leadership role of the Party Committee in the spirit of democratic centralism, creating a close connection between the Party Committee and all officials, employees and students. The University continues to strongly restructure the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, University of Pharmacy, university autonomy and closely connect with practice facilities in the region, moving towards perfecting the "School - Institute" model by 2030. The scale, type and quality of training are developed in a capacity-based direction, meeting social needs and international integration; developing resources to strongly promote scientific research among officials - employees and students, strongly expanding international cooperation, creating favorable conditions for the development of the University. At the same time, effectively promote all resources to expand infrastructure, develop facilities and equipment to enhance human resources, meet the requirements of training development, scientific research, medical examination and treatment according to regional standards and towards approaching international standards.

The school's Party Committee has expanded and strongly developed infrastructure, equipment, developed Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, family doctor clinics and a number of other practice facilities in a specialized and high-quality direction, to achieve hospital quality according to regional standards by 2030 and approaching international standards by 2035. The school's Party Committee continues to strengthen the Party's leadership, promote the spirit of solidarity, strength and collective intelligence to focus on leadership and determination to successfully implement the Party's resolutions; accelerate and further strengthen fundamental and comprehensive innovation in education and training, make breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and digital transformation in the spirit of Resolution 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo.

In particular, the "School - Institute" model of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, University of Health was honored by the Central Propaganda Department (now the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department) as a typical example in studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style in the Central - Central Highlands region in 2024.
