Identity of motorcyclist who fell into 10m deep 'death hole'

The victim of a motorbike accident that fell into a 'death hole' in Bac Kan was identified as Nguyen Duy Ph. (born in 1989), residing in Kim Hy commune, Na Ri district.

Authorities worked overnight to reach the deep hole with ropes to find the victim.

On May 28, the leader of Kim Lu Commune Police (Na Ri District, Bac Kan Province) said that the authorities had identified the driver of the motorbike that plunged into a sinkhole on National Highway 3B on the evening of May 26.

The victim was identified as Nguyen Duy Ph. (born in 1989), residing in Kim Hy commune, Na Ri district.

Receiving information from local people, rescue forces arrived at the scene to carry out search operations, however, the victim has not yet been found.

After about 10 hours of using field pumps and high-capacity pumps, by 9:00 p.m. on May 27, the water in the sinkhole (located in the middle of the median strip of National Highway 3B, through Kim Lu Commune, Na Ri District) - where the victim had an accident, had receded.

Taking advantage of this time, the Fire Prevention, Fire Fighting and Rescue Police Department (Bac Kan Provincial Police) sent experienced officers to reach deep inside the "frog's jaw" of the sinkhole. With the support of their teammates above, officers from the Fire Prevention, Fire Fighting and Rescue Police Department sat on buoys and used sickles and iron hooks about 4 meters long to search below but had no results because they had not reached the bottom of the sinkhole.

Field and specialized pumping equipment operates day and night

As of the morning of May 28, rescue work is still underway with the support of many specialized units. Many modern and manual equipment such as specialized cameras, field pumps, mechanical tools... have been mobilized to serve the search in the hole more than 10 meters deep.

The area where the accident occurred is still being blocked off to ensure public safety and facilitate continued rescue work.

Previously, at around 9:00 p.m. on May 26, an accident was suspected to have been caused by a motorbike speeding into a sinkhole in the middle of Highway 3B, passing through Hiep Luc village. On the morning of May 27, the Director of Bac Kan Provincial Police mobilized 18 officers and soldiers to coordinate with the army and local forces to carry out search operations in the area known as the "death hole".
