Director Bui Trung Hai confirmed that his father, People's Artist Bui Dinh Hac, passed away on the evening of July 1 at the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Hospital after suffering from a stroke and pneumonia, at the age of 89.
Currently, the funeral date of People's Artist Bui Dinh Hac has not been decided.

People's Artist Bui Dinh Hac was born in 1934 in Phu Tho , enlisted in the army in 1949, and studied cinema in the (former) Soviet Union.
In 1953, he started working in the film industry in the Viet Bac Safe Zone during the resistance war against France, and was one of the artists who laid the first bricks for the Vietnamese Revolutionary Cinema.
Throughout his life and dedication to art, he was respected by many later generations and colleagues.
He is the director of many landmark films of domestic cinema such as: "Nguyen Van Troi" (1966), "Duong ve que me" (1971), "Hoa thien ly" (1973), " Ha Noi 12 days and nights" (2002)...
With his works, People's Artist Bui Dinh Hac has won many important awards such as the Silver Lotus Award at the 14th Vietnam Film Festival (2004) for the film "Hanoi 12 Days and Nights"; the film "Duong ve que me" won first prize at the New Delhi International Film Festival (India) in 1973...

With documentaries, he directed films such as: "Water returns to Bac Hung Hai", "Anh Nguyen Van Troi lives forever", " Ho Chi Minh - Portrait of a man", "Nguyen Ai Quoc comes to Lenin", "The Road back to the Fatherland".
Among them, "Water Returns to Bac Hung Hai" released in 1959 won the First Prize Gold Medal at the Moscow International Film Festival for best documentary.
This is the first international Golden Award of the Vietnamese Cinema industry and also the first international Golden Award of the Vietnamese Literature and Arts. The film has become the pride of the country. In addition, the work was also awarded the Golden Lotus Award at the 2nd Vietnam Film Festival in 1973.
In addition to his artistic activities, People's Artist Bui Dinh Hac also held a number of important positions. He was Director of the Central Documentary and Scientific Film Studio, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Cinema Department, Deputy Secretary General of the Vietnam Cinema Association, Term 1. In addition, he was a judge at many domestic and international film festivals.
The late artist was awarded the title of People's Artist in 1984 and received the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Literature and Arts in 2007.
