The mark of "Union meal"

The program "Trade Union Meal" launched by the Thai Nguyen Provincial Labor Federation on the occasion of the 96th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Trade Union (July 28, 1929 - July 28, 2025) and the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution and National Day September 2, has practical and deeply humane meaning. The Provincial Federation of Labor always cares about the lives of workers and laborers in industrial parks.

After a short time of launching, the program has received enthusiastic response from all levels of Trade Unions in the province, creating a strong spread from a meaningful activity. According to statistics, 101 grassroots trade unions have successfully organized "Trade Union Meals" for more than 73 thousand union members and workers. Each meal is worth 50,000 VND or more, with a total mobilized resource of nearly 3 billion VND. Of which, the Provincial Federation of Labor (FFL) supported more than 171 million VND, the rest came from the joint efforts of grassroots trade unions, enterprises and many other socialized sources.

“Union meals” have great spiritual significance, far beyond the value of a normal meal. Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen, a worker at Nui Phao Mineral Exploitation and Processing Company, was moved: The meals are very cozy, everyone eats and talks together. It feels like a family meal right at the workplace. Warm meals express the joy and excitement of the workers, helping union members feel more clearly the companionship and care of the Union organization, creating a joyful and connected atmosphere right at the workplace.

Not only are the workers excited, many business owners have expressed their strong support. Mr. Truong Tran Bao, Deputy General Director of the Mountainous Rural Development and Construction Company Limited, said: When the Union proposed to organize a "Union Meal", the Company's leadership was very supportive. This is an opportunity to increase the connection between leaders and workers, create a friendly atmosphere, and also help us better understand the thoughts and aspirations of the workers.

In most units, business owners and employers sit together at the dining table, sharing about life, family, and work. This activity has proven effective in building a more harmonious and stronger labor relationship in the enterprise, serving as a solid bridge between the enterprise and the employees.

The highlight of this year’s “Union Meal” program is the creativity in the way it is organized in many units, creating an atmosphere of “Every meal is a happy day”. Instead of just organizing a simple meal, many trade unions have considered this as a real festival, where workers are cared for in many diverse ways.

In some places, the meal is an occasion to organize a ceremony to admit new members, to acknowledge their joining the common home of the Union. In some places, a collective birthday program is integrated, bringing unexpected joy to workers whose birthdays fall within the month. In particular, many units also give meaningful gifts to members, hold lucky draws, and choose gifts according to their needs...

The concern is also shown through small but subtle and practical actions such as giving away cool ice cream bars, cool water bottles, yogurt boxes... These things have created a joyful and close atmosphere and made workers deeply feel the concern from the Trade Union organization and business leaders.

Workers at Hadanbi Vina Co., Ltd. (Diem Thuy Industrial Park) are happy with the "Union Meal".

On this occasion, the Provincial Federation of Labor also directly visited union members and workers at factories and production workshops and presented 175 gifts with a total value of 122.5 million VND to promptly encourage union members who are still facing many difficulties and hardships.

Sharing about the significance of the program, Ms. Tran Thi Hong Thai, Vice President of the Provincial Federation of Labor, emphasized: It is not simply a meal, but has great spiritual significance, helping union members feel more clearly the companionship and care of the Trade Union organization. Through these activities, it helps increase cohesion, build harmonious, stable and progressive relationships.

With the enthusiastic response from business leaders, trade unions and tens of thousands of workers, the “Union Meal” in Thai Nguyen has spread a humane message, affirming the role of the Trade Union as a trusted companion, always caring for and protecting the rights of workers. At the same time, it is an important bridge to build harmonious labor relations, affirming the role of the Trade Union in the political system and the lives of workers.
