Accompanying the efforts of the electricity industry, in 1990, Tan Loc authorities actively mobilized the "joint efforts and hearts" of local people and businesses, together contributing to investing in the project of bringing electricity across Hau River to Tan Loc Islet. This is one of the projects bearing historical marks, implemented according to "Party's Will - People's Heart", contributing to promoting economic development, improving the material and spiritual life of people on Tan Loc Islet.

Recalling the memorable day of the inauguration of the project to bring electricity across the Hau River to Tan Loc Islet in 1990, Mr. Le Van Huan, in Tan Loc Ward, emotionally said: The inauguration day of the project to bring electricity across the Hau River to Tan Loc Islet was right on the occasion of the Lunar New Year in 1990, so that year, the people of the island were even happier, everyone was excited to watch the inauguration ceremony of the electricity project, with an extremely joyful feeling, because the dream of having electricity for decades, had now come true. Since having electricity, the lives of the people of the island have become brighter, children no longer have to live with kerosene lamps to study; people no longer have to live in dark roads making it difficult to travel at night, because the light of the "electric house" has shone brightly in every house, every road... Thanks to electricity, people have the conditions to buy appliances such as rice cookers, televisions, electric fans, refrigerators... to make their daily lives more and more convenient. Thanks to electricity, the local government has mobilized people to join hands with the Party and State to carry out the movement "Bright, green, clean, beautiful" to gradually build Tan Loc homeland brighter and more beautiful.

Sharing the process of bringing "electricity one step ahead" 10 years earlier than expected, to pave the way for economic development for his hometown Tan Loc, Mr. Doan No, in Long Chau area, Tan Loc ward, said: In the early years after the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, this island was famous for the outstanding development of the sugar making village, with dozens of sugar kilns, distributed to all the provinces in the West. Before the outstanding development of the sugar making profession at that time, there was a need for "electricity one step ahead" to pave the way for local economic development, so at the end of 1990, the local government, together with the people and the electricity industry, unanimously joined forces to bring electricity across the Hau River to Tan Loc island, 10 years earlier than expected compared to the State's electricity supply plan.

According to Uncle No, at the end of 1990, towering electric poles across the river, connecting the mainland to Tan Loc island, were erected. Since then, every house, road, office building, production facility, business... in the island has been lit up by the light of the "lighthouse". Thanks to electricity, the people of the island have had the opportunity to invest in modern technology, apply automatic irrigation systems to cultivate fruit orchards, and open the way for the development of a vibrant eco-tourism village like today; also thanks to electricity, the people of the tra fish farming village have had the opportunity to invest in aerators, water pumps... to raise fish according to export standards and the needs of purchasing enterprises, bringing a stable source of income to the people of the fish farming village.

Tan Loc Islet, known as the "sweet island" of Can Tho City, is strongly developing eco-tourism models along with commercial tra fish farming villages... Therefore, in order to increase the capacity of electricity supply, serve the daily needs and expand production and business activities for the people of the islet, in 2023, the Southern Power Corporation invested nearly 124 billion VND, constructing a 22kV underground cable line across the Hau River to supply electricity to Tan Loc Islet. This is one of the projects marking the strong development of Tan Loc Islet in particular and the mission of "lighting up the belief" of the Southern electricity industry in general.

Currently, Tan Loc ward has over 3,340 hectares of natural land and 35,519 households, with an average income per capita of 110 million VND/person/year; 160 industrial and handicraft establishments; 13 tourist attractions; over 311 hectares of aquaculture ponds and 212 cages; over 1,300 hectares of land for growing fruit trees, such as plum, guava, durian, longan... In particular, with the investment and support of the electricity industry, up to now, Tan Loc island has over 55.7 km of low-voltage lines and over 27 km of medium-voltage lines... ensuring stable and reliable supply to serve people's lives, especially promoting the strong development of eco-tourism craft villages along with famous commercial fish farming villages for export in the West, bringing livelihoods to the island people for nearly half a century.
