After many years of little change in accommodation services in Hue, especially the increase in the number of 3-5 star hotels, in 2024, with the appearance of the 3-star hotel SBH Gloria Hue Resort, the good news is that Hue tourism has 2 more hotels recognized by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism as meeting 5-star standards: La Vela Hue Hotel (June 2024) and Langco Bay Retreat Resort Hotel (October 2024), bringing the total number of 5-star accommodation facilities in Hue to 10.

According to the Department of Tourism, by early October 2024, the province had nearly 900 accommodation establishments, with more than 14,300 rooms and more than 22,900 beds, including 205 hotels with 8,672 rooms and 14,350 beds. There were 24 3-5 star hotels.

Compared to the past, the accommodation needs of visitors have changed a lot. The trend of tourists is increasingly choosing high-class accommodation services, but Hue is lacking a lot. In fact, in the past 20 years, the number of 4-5 star hotels in Hue has not increased much. The room fund in the accommodation system is not too large, making it difficult to compete with localities in terms of price and there is often a shortage of rooms during holidays and peak periods.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Binh, Director of Century Hue Hotel, said that service infrastructure must meet the development requirements of tourism. In addition to perfecting products and tours, accommodation services that meet the needs of tourists are also a solution to retain tourists. However, there is still a difficult problem that on holidays and weekends, the situation of "full rooms" is common, but on weekdays, the capacity cannot be filled. This is a concern that requires investors to calculate very carefully when investing.

According to tourism businesses, the above difficulties need to be solved. Because the development trend requires quality accommodation services. Meanwhile, the room fund of high-star hotels has not met the demand, it will be very difficult to create competitiveness in the context of fierce competition in tourism and the problem of retaining tourists is increasingly difficult.

Elevating tourism from attracting investment

Solving the problem of tourism investment has always played an important role in improving and enhancing the quality, attracting more and more tourists to and staying at tourist destinations. Currently, with positive forecasts of a vibrant picture in the high-end service segment with the participation of strategic investors, localities have organized many investment promotion programs to introduce the potential and investment opportunities in tourism, actively creating an open environment to attract investment.

At the workshop “New trends in tourism development investment in Vietnam” organized by the Institute for Tourism Development Research in late October 2024, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Pham Van Thuy said that Vietnam has implemented many policies to attract capital flows into tourism projects, from transport infrastructure to investment in the construction of resorts and entertainment services. Investment capital in tourism has reached tens of thousands of billions of VND, both domestic capital and foreign direct investment (FDI).

Director of the Institute for Tourism Development Research Nguyen Anh Tuan said that in order to motivate investors to choose to invest in the tourism sector in Vietnam, it is necessary to rely on many internal factors such as tourism potential and local destination brands to promote investment attraction in tourism, especially investment from abroad. There should be open policies to attract foreign investment, create an attractive investment environment, especially the readiness and initiative of localities in promoting investment attraction in tourism, creating favorable conditions for administrative procedures in granting tourism investment certificates, etc.

According to Director of the Department of Tourism Nguyen Van Phuc, identifying tourism as a key economic sector, the tourism industry and local authorities have had and are having many open mechanisms and policies to call for and attract investment in the tourism sector, including high-class accommodation services. The province is focusing on solutions to further improve the business environment, enhance provincial competitiveness, and create favorable conditions to effectively attract investment capital into the tourism sector.
