Strengthening the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods

In recent times, the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods in Phu Tho town has been vigorously implemented, contributing to stabilizing the market and promoting production and business.

Market Management Team No. 2 strengthens the inspection and control of goods in Phu Tho town.

Phu Tho town is a densely populated area, with developed commercial and service activities, and a variety of goods sold on the market. In 2024, the Steering Committee for Combating Smuggling, Commercial Fraud and Counterfeit Goods (Steering Committee 389) of the town and functional forces inspected 116 production and business establishments; discovered and handled 77 establishments, the amount of administrative fines paid to the budget was over 800 million VND. The value of goods with counterfeit trademarks and unknown origins that were forced to be destroyed was over 100 million VND.

Especially at the end of the year and on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025, the demand for goods among the people tends to increase, many cases of counterfeiting of trademarks and goods of unknown origin were promptly detected and handled by the authorities, protecting the rights of consumers.

Typically, in December 2024, through inspection and understanding the situation, Phu Tho Town Police discovered that Le Duc Anh, permanent resident of Zone 9, Phu Ho Commune, had purchased HCL Acid (Hydrochloric Acid) to self-mix and produce cleaning liquid. At the scene, the Town Police temporarily seized a total of 297 bottles of finished cleaning liquid mixed by the facility. Based on the provisions of the law, Phu Tho Town Police decided to fine the facility a total of 46.5 million VND, the value of the goods to be destroyed was 22.275 million VND.

In 2025, it is forecasted that the socio-economic situation in the town will continue to face many difficulties and challenges due to the impacts of the world security, economic and political situation and the complicated and unpredictable developments of the epidemic and weather. This will cause the situation of smuggling, trade fraud; production and trade of counterfeit goods, banned goods, goods of unknown origin, goods violating food hygiene and safety (VSATTP), goods that do not ensure quality, goods violating intellectual property rights... to have complicated developments with sophisticated, modern tricks that are difficult to control. Especially in transactions on the electronic environment, personal social pages such as: Facebook, Zalo, Tiktok.

To proactively control the situation, promptly detect and prevent acts of smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods, and protect consumer rights, the Steering Committee against smuggling and trade fraud has directed units and members of the Steering Committee 389 of the town to deploy and seriously and effectively implement the province's directives on the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods.

Comrade Bui Dang Thanh - Deputy Captain of Market Management Team No. 2 said: As the Standing Agency of the Town Steering Committee 389, Market Management Team No. 2 has proactively developed plans and strategies to inspect and control essential industries and goods, focusing on: Materials for production, food, foodstuffs, gasoline, gas, fertilizers, chemicals, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, functional foods...; closely monitor the area, review organizations and individuals doing business in the area to collect information, grasp the market situation to effectively carry out inspection, control and strictly handle violations according to regulations.

Along with that, members of the Steering Committee 389 of the town promoted propaganda work, contributing to raising consumers' awareness of supporting and consuming quality, safe goods with clear origin; creating consensus and response from all classes of people about not covering up, participating in monitoring, detecting and denouncing violations of the law to authorities at all levels and specialized management agencies to support and assist functional forces in performing well the task of market management.

At the same time, proactively coordinate, connect, and share information among management units in the area; clearly define the responsibilities of each functional force, inspect and urge the implementation of assigned tasks. Timely handle violations, not allowing the formation of "networks" in smuggling, production, transportation, and trading of counterfeit, fake, poor quality goods, goods that do not ensure food safety and hygiene, expired goods...
