According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , in 2024, economic diplomacy will achieve many important results, contributing more and more substantially and effectively to the implementation of socio-economic development goals.
Vietnam attracts FDI and imports and exports, of which import and export turnover is expected to reach around 800 billion USD; FDI capital attraction in 11 months reached more than 31.4 billion USD, an increase of 12.4% over the same period in 2023, especially FDI disbursement reached 21.7 billion USD, the highest in many years.
Economic cooperation has become an essential content in nearly 60 foreign affairs activities of key leaders in 2024, bringing concrete results with more than 170 cooperation agreements signed; contributing to renewing traditional driving forces through promoting cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, and labor with major markets and key investment partners, especially Northeast Asia, the US, and India.
At the conference, delegates discussed, assessed the situation, analyzed causes, lessons learned and proposed breakthrough solutions, promoted trade and investment cooperation, expanded import-export markets and promoted technology transfer... In particular, delegates proposed the need to connect and encourage Vietnamese enterprises to invest abroad, so that Vietnamese enterprises and brands can reach out to the world.
Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh commended and welcomed the contributions of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad, businesses and people to the country's common achievements.
The Prime Minister requested that ministries, branches, localities, enterprises, Vietnamese representative agencies abroad, and managers find all solutions to achieve a GDP growth rate of at least 8% to accelerate and make further breakthroughs. Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City determined to increase growth to 10% to create momentum, force, and spirit to move towards the 14th National Party Congress with the determination to achieve double-digit growth.
Ministries, branches, units and localities promote three breakthroughs, creating an open investment environment in terms of policies and mechanisms, creating opportunities for economic sectors to develop; developing transport infrastructure to reduce logistics costs, increase the competitiveness of goods; training human resources to increase competitiveness and increase labor productivity.
Economic diplomacy is a new and important driving force. The Prime Minister requested to renew traditional growth drivers such as export, investment, and consumption; promote new growth drivers such as green economy, digital economy, circular economy, knowledge economy, sharing economy, and night-time economy; focus on building brands for Vietnamese products and services; promote more substantial and effective trade and investment; develop sustainable competitive markets; diversify products, diversify markets, and diversify supply chains.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh believes that with the joint efforts, solidarity and consensus of ministries, sectors, localities, associations and enterprises, especially the proactiveness, positivity and promotion of the vanguard role of the diplomatic sector and representative agencies abroad, economic diplomacy will continue to be implemented more strongly, comprehensively and creatively, contributing to the successful implementation of goals and consolidating the foundation for the country to enter a new era, an era of national growth.
