In recent years, promoting the qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers", the tradition of solidarity, exemplary and innovative, the Long Phu District Veterans Association has always been determined to carry out well the poverty reduction movement, develop economic models, bring about efficiency, and gradually improve the material and spiritual life of members. Implementing the connection between the emulation movement "Exemplary veterans" and the emulation movement "War veterans help each other reduce poverty, do good business", the cadres and members of the Veterans Association have promoted the spirit of self-reliance, overcoming difficulties, uniting to help each other develop the economy, quickly escape poverty and become rich legitimately.

Since 2019, the Long Phu District Veterans Association has built 114 economic development models, of which more than 30 models have registered to implement the "Smart Mass Mobilization" model. Caring for the material and spiritual life of members has always been a concern of the association, this is an important emulation goal that requires the association's bases and members to make every effort. The association has mobilized members to contribute to various funds, contribute revolving capital and participate in charitable activities with an amount of over 2 billion VND. In addition, 436 member households have borrowed capital from the Social Policy Bank with an amount of over 14.6 billion VND. With capital in hand, many members have invested in planting and raising livestock, achieving high economic efficiency. According to statistics, the Veterans Association of Hau Thanh, Chau Khanh, Tan Hung communes and Dai Ngai town no longer has poor member households, especially the Long Phu Commune Veterans Association has completely eliminated all poor and near-poor member households.
The Association also coordinated with relevant agencies and units to organize training courses on science and technology transfer, and implement livestock and crop models for over 900 officials and members of working age. Since then, many member families have built effective household economic models, helping members to escape poverty sustainably, such as: the model of breeding cows in Long Phu, Phu Huu, Hau Thanh, and Chau Khanh communes. In addition, many members have built household economic models that meet the standards of good production and business at all levels, such as: the Cooperative Group for growing morning glory in May Hat Hamlet, Hau Thanh Commune; the Cooperative Group for growing fruit trees in Loi Duc Hamlet, Long Duc Commune; the model of growing Thai jackfruit, lemon, longan, and Taiwanese mango of member Pham Van Ly in Long Duc Commune, with an income of over 800 million VND/year; The multi-cropping model, fruit trees combined with vegetables, fish, chicken and cow farming of member Nguyen Thanh Toan, Hau Thanh commune, brings in an income of over 700 million VND/year; ST25 specialty rice production cooperative group in Soc Dong hamlet, Tan Hung commune; and cow farming cooperative group in Chau Khanh commune. In particular, the collective economic model of ST25 specialty rice production cooperative group in Soc Dong hamlet, Tan Hung commune has an average profit of 40 million VND/ha/crop; household economic models such as the sweet passion fruit production facility of member Nguyen Huu Cong, Song Phung commune, brings in an income of over 1 billion VND/year.
Talking to us, Mr. Nguyen Huu Cong shared: "Responding to the movement of helping each other to do business, reduce poverty, improve living standards, and take care of the legitimate and legal interests of war veterans, like a breath of fresh air, has created a widespread competitive atmosphere in all levels of the association, including myself. Having accumulated a small amount of capital, in 2019, I expanded the planting area to 7,000m2 of sweet passion fruit and applied the automatic spray irrigation method controlled via a phone application to save both labor costs and fuel. With this method, along with applying food safety and hygiene techniques in fertilizing plants, every year I export 5,000 seedlings to the market, earning 500 million VND and over 3 tons of fruit, earning 300 million VND. From 2019 to now, I have always paid attention to the output quality of products for sale to the market, and at the same time, I have also registered the exclusive trademark of Sau Cong Sweet Passion Fruit".
In addition, there are many effective and typical economic models with annual income of over 400 million VND such as: model of growing Thai water chestnuts, growing various crops on the shore; model of growing grapefruit, growing vegetables, combining fish farming, and grocery trading; model of multi-cropping fruit trees combined with raising livestock, poultry, and growing vegetables; model of growing fruit trees combined with raising wild boars, chickens, and ducks; model of raising goats for breeding combined with growing vegetables and raising chickens; model of growing fruit trees using high technology... All models have high and stable income, helping members to escape poverty and escape poverty sustainably.
From 2020 to present, in order to improve the lives of members, the association has launched a movement to promote each member's household to increase production around the house to improve their lives, which has brought positive results. As a result, the total income from production around the house of the district's war veterans' association officials and members is over 17 billion VND, exceeding the planned target by 55.62%.
Effective models not only increase household income but also create jobs for thousands of local workers. Just counting the production and business models owned by the Veterans Association with 14 models, creating jobs for 145 workers; 98 farms, creating jobs for 415 workers; 9 households implementing business and service models, creating jobs for 82 workers... All the models that the association has implemented, maintained and expanded to date have strictly followed the provisions of the law on environmental protection, food hygiene and safety, labor safety; paying taxes and making full financial contributions according to regulations. Also from these models, every year, the Long Phu District Veterans Association has more and more Veterans Association member households achieving the title of excellent production and business at all levels.

It can be said that the above model has helped the War Veterans promote their will to be self-reliant and self-reliant, not only promoting and effectively using all resources, especially capital, science and technology, promoting the emulation movement "War Veterans help each other reduce poverty, produce and do good business", but also supporting each other in production and business to become rich legitimately and legally. From 2019 to present, the number of poor member households has decreased to 7 poor households, accounting for 0.5% (down 7.45% compared to the beginning of the period 2019 - 2024); the number of member households with a good and rich standard of living is 867 households, accounting for 61.70% (up 18.43% compared to the beginning of the period 2019 - 2024). Currently, 51/61 branches have no poor member households, accounting for 83.6% (an increase of 45.9% compared to the beginning of the 2019 - 2024 period); 5 grassroots association organizations have no poor member households, accounting for 45.45%.
For more than 5 years, the association has mobilized benefactors and agencies inside and outside the district to support the construction of 68 new houses for members in need of housing with a total amount of over 3.6 billion. Currently, there are no poor member households in need of housing. Thanks to the efforts of the members, the help of comrades and teammates, and the investment of capital sources from the association and the Social Policy Bank, members have had a stable life, improved their living standards, and escaped poverty sustainably, reducing the number of people leaving their locality to work elsewhere.
Comrade Huynh Tuyet Quang - Chairman of the Association of War Veterans in Long Phu district said that in the coming time, the Association of War Veterans at all levels will continue to promote the movement "War Veterans help each other reduce poverty, do good business"; create conditions for poor and near-poor war veteran households to develop production and business, improve their lives; encourage members to actively participate in economic development projects, get rich legitimately, contributing to the effective implementation of the poverty reduction program and building advanced new rural areas, model new rural areas in the locality.
