Promoting the brand of Vietnamese traditional medicine internationally

The scientific conference “Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine: Inheritance, Innovation and Integration” is an important forum, not only helping to evaluate the achieved results, but also opening up new directions for the future development of Vietnam's traditional medicine and the Academy of Traditional Medicine in the new era.

13 international delegations from countries with developed traditional medicine and long-term cooperative relationships with Vietnam attended the conference, demonstrating the spirit of cooperation and international solidarity in the field of traditional medicine, deepening the position of the Academy in the international arena.

Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Lien Huong emphasized this at the Scientific Conference of Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine: Inheritance, Innovation and Integration held on May 18 in Hanoi, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine (2005-2025) and the 55th anniversary of its tradition (1970-2025).

The Deputy Minister of Health said that Vietnam's traditional medicine sector is facing many opportunities and also many challenges in the context of increasingly deep international integration and comprehensive reform of the health system. In recent times, the Party, the State and the Ministry of Health have paid attention and issued guiding documents to promote and develop Vietnam's traditional medicine sector such as Resolution 20-NQ/TW dated October 25, 2017, Directive 24-CT/TW dated July 4, 2008, Conclusion No. 86-KL/TW dated July 10, 2024 of the Central Executive Committee, the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment 2023, the Law on amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Pharmacy 2024 and guiding Decrees and circulars.

In the new context, the health sector will continue to promote the implementation of the Party's policies and legal regulations related to training, research, and application of traditional medicine and pharmacy treatment to develop Vietnamese traditional medicine and gradually integrate with the region and the world.

The Deputy Minister of Health requested to consult international experience through reports from countries with traditions in traditional medicine at the Scientific Conference to innovate and improve the quality of training of Vietnamese traditional medicine doctors, towards the examination to assess the professional capacity of traditional medicine doctors according to the current Law on Medical Examination and Treatment from 2027. The units proactively proposed to advise the Ministry of Health and the National Medical Council on expertise in the upcoming examination to assess the professional capacity of traditional medicine doctors based on the current situation in Vietnam and the experience of countries that have implemented the report in the conference.

In particular, it is necessary to promote the inheritance, preservation and development of traditional medicine, the development of medicinal herbs and traditional medicines; strengthen scientific research and technology transfer; improve the effectiveness of international cooperation, promote the building and promotion of the image and brand of Vietnamese traditional medicine internationally.

Associate Professor Nguyen Quoc Huy, Director of the Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine, said that the conference included 3 in-depth working sessions, with nearly 20 high-quality scientific reports, reflecting the development trends, integration and interdisciplinary application of traditional medicine in Vietnam and around the world.

The workshop has 3 thematic sessions: Session 1 on training and assessment according to the capacity of traditional medicine doctors; Session 2 on updating advances in screening, diagnosis and treatment of cancer with modern medicine, traditional medicine, combining traditional medicine with modern medicine and domestic and international reports in session 3.

The seminars with the participation of leading international experts from countries with developed traditional medicine such as Korea, China, South Korea, Thailand, Japan, Malaysia, Australia, etc. Sharing from international experts helps Vietnam refer to the training and evaluation experiences of international training institutions to innovate programs, improve training quality and help medical examination and treatment facilities develop research and apply traditional medicine in treatment, including cancer treatment, etc.

Some outstanding reports by domestic and international experts and scientists include: Report on scientific research orientation on acupuncture in the 21st century; Current status of acupuncture and moxibustion in Japan; Application of Choang Y acupuncture in the treatment of migraine; Effective treatment support of electroacupuncture in anxiety and depression disorders in Hanoi; Recovery journey thanks to the healing power of traditional medicine; Acupuncture in migraine treatment - results of in-depth research... The reports provide clinical perspectives and practical applications on effective, safe, and personalized treatment coordination for patients.../.
