Promoting electricity saving propaganda - Lang Son Electronic Newspaper

- According to the forecast of the industry and trade sector, from May to August 2024, the electricity consumption capacity in Lang Son province can reach 201 MW, an increase of 26 MW compared to the same period in 2023. Meanwhile, the output allocated from the national grid to Lang Son province is only at 165 - 170 MW. To ensure sufficient power supply for production, business and daily life, the optimal solution is to promote propaganda to customers to use electricity economically.

Mr. Nguyen Hai Nam, Head of Energy Management Department, Department of Industry and Trade said: According to forecasts, the supply of electricity for production and daily life in the province from May to August 2024 will be at risk of shortage, so the Department of Industry and Trade has been coordinating with all levels and sectors in the province to promote propaganda on electricity saving to achieve the set electricity saving target.

Accordingly, from the beginning of 2024 to present, the Department of Industry and Trade has coordinated with Lang Son Electricity Company to hang more than 300 banners promoting the efficient use of electricity on main roads and in densely populated areas in districts and cities; online communication on websites and information portals of People's Committees of districts, cities, departments, branches and sectors; organizing working groups to industrial production enterprises to work, propagate and mobilize enterprises to reduce electricity use. The Department of Industry and Trade also supports energy audits for a number of industrial production enterprises with electricity consumption of 1 million kWh/year to help enterprises identify areas of wasteful energy use, thereby finding energy saving solutions.

Sharing about the propaganda work on saving electricity in Lang Son city, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Van, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee, said: In the past time, the City People's Committee has directed specialized departments and People's Committees of wards and communes to focus on doing a good job of propaganda work. In particular, specialized departments coordinate with wards and communes to organize groups to visit each business household and family in the area to directly propagate about saving electricity. With regular propaganda on saving electricity, in the first 4 months of 2024, the amount of electricity saved in the city reached more than 1,900 kWh. Of which, household electricity saved more than 1,000 kWh.

To make saving electricity a habit, in addition to departments, branches, and authorities at all levels, the Youth Union and Youth Force have also stepped up propaganda work on implementing electricity saving. Accordingly, in the first 4 months of 2024, the Youth Union and Youth Force distributed 10,000 leaflets with propaganda content on economical and efficient use of electricity to households, businesses, and students at all levels in schools; coordinated with Women's Unions at all levels to distribute more than 3,000 handbooks on "Energy Saving in the Family" to Women's Union members.

Together with all levels and sectors, Lang Son Electricity Company has been directing its affiliated power companies in charge of districts and cities to proactively propagate to all households, businesses, state management agencies, business households, schools, etc. about using electricity economically and effectively. At the same time, it has coordinated with the authorities of districts and cities to replace 241 public lighting bulbs (250W high-pressure mercury lamps with 120W LED lamps) on some main roads.

Mr. Huynh Van Long, Director of Bao Long Company Limited, said: On average, the company consumes about 7.3 million kWh per year, the cost of electricity accounts for about 7% of the company's total annual cost. Every year, entering the hot season, through propaganda, the company has classified equipment to use electricity reasonably, avoid using it during peak hours, temporarily stop running some machines when not needed, and turn off unnecessary lighting equipment in factories, offices, etc. Thereby, the electricity consumption in the first 4 months of 2024 has decreased by about 10% compared to the same period in 2023 (equivalent to about 240,000 kWh).

Regularly educating customers about using electricity economically and effectively has contributed to ensuring a stable power supply in the province.

In the first 4 months of 2023, the province's total electricity savings were 5.98 million kWh. Of which, some major electricity users such as household electricity saved nearly 3,200 kWh in the first 4 months of 2024; industrial production saved nearly 1,900 thousand kWh; service business saved nearly 500 kWh; public administration saved more than 398 kWh...
