Bao Lac A Hydropower Project is built on Gam River through Co Ba Commune (Bao Lac) with 2 turbines, capacity of 30 MW. Average electricity output of 116.581 million kWh/year invested by Song Gam Hydropower Joint Stock Company. The feasibility study report and basic design of Bao Lac A Hydropower Project were appraised by the Department of Industry and Trade on January 9, 2024; the design documents implemented after the basic design were appraised by the Department of Industry and Trade on August 13, 2024. The project completed phase 1 site clearance from mid-December 2024.
Immediately after the groundbreaking ceremony, the contractor focused on human resources and equipment to deploy the project items. Up to now, after more than 4 months of construction, the contractors have completed 100% of the volume of the camp area, auxiliary items, construction power supply, construction road; volume of excavation for the foundation pit of the cofferdam, the right shoulder dam and the factory; volume of concrete for the diversion wall; 64.5% of the volume of concrete for the diversion culvert foundation, 46.5% of the volume of concrete for the water intake; 25% of the volume of concrete for the right shoulder dam; 76% of the volume of concrete for the factory; 48% of the volume of concrete for the discharge channel. Currently, 75% of the volume of electromechanical equipment buried in concrete has been imported to the factory. At the construction site, the contractors are implementing the construction items to ensure progress according to plan, determined to hand over and put into operation and production in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Downstream, the Thuong Ha Hydropower Project is built on the Gam River, flowing through Thuong Ha Commune (Bao Lac). The plant consists of 2 units with a capacity of 13MW, average electricity of 44.375 million kWh/year, also invested by Song Gam Hydropower Joint Stock Company. The feasibility study report and basic design of the Thuong Ha Hydropower Project were appraised by the Department of Industry and Trade on July 4, 2024; the design documents implemented after the basic design were appraised by the Department of Industry and Trade on October 21, 2024. The project completed site clearance phase 1 in December 2024.
After more than 4 months of construction, the Thuong Ha Hydropower Project has completed 100% of the construction volume of the Camp Area, auxiliary works, construction power supply, construction roads; the volume of digging the foundation pit of the factory, dam, spillway; the volume of concrete work for the diversion wall; 62.1% of the volume of concrete work for the spillway, water intake gate; 79.7% of the volume of concrete work for the water intake gate. 73% of the volume of electromechanical equipment buried in concrete has been imported to the factory. The project ensures progress according to plan, striving to hand over and put into operation and production in the third quarter of 2026, 2 months earlier than the commitment to the province.
With the efforts of the investor and contractors, the 2 hydropower projects on Gam River are being urgently deployed, determined to complete ahead of schedule, soon put into operation 4 units with a total capacity of 43MW, bringing into the national grid over 130 million kWh/year of clean energy, effectively exploiting the hydropower potential on Gam River, contributing to the socio -economic development in the highland border areas.
