3 types of questions

The V-SAT exam content will be based on the high school curriculum, primarily the 12th grade curriculum (approximately 90% of the knowledge is from the 12th grade curriculum; approximately 10% is from the 10th and 11th grade curricula). Candidates will take the exam on a computer, with 90 minutes allotted for Mathematics; and 60 minutes each for English, Physics, Chemistry, History, Geography, and Biology.

Accordingly, each exam paper contains three types of questions: true/false multiple-choice questions; matching multiple-choice questions; and short-answer multiple-choice questions.

True/false multiple-choice questions typically have a format outside of the question section, consisting of three columns: one column listing the questions and the other two columns containing blank spaces for test-takers to choose true or false based on their understanding. Each question of this type usually has 4-5 true/false options.

For multiple-choice matching questions, besides the question/introduction, this type of question consists of two columns: one column listing the questions/questions and the other listing the answers. Based on a predetermined standard formula, test-takers must match the questions in one column with the answers in the other column. The number of questions in the two columns can be equal or different.

The question section is usually placed in the left column, numbered numerically (1, 2, 3...); the answer section is placed in the right column, numbered alphabetically (A, B, C,...). To ensure the validity of the questions and minimize the possibility of guesswork by test-takers, the number of options in the right column is usually greater than the number of questions in the left column.

For short-answer multiple-choice questions, test-takers are required to find their own answer, rather than choosing from a given option. The answer can be a word, a number, a symbol, a phrase, or a simple statement. This type of question is often used to test memorization of important information, facts, or basic knowledge and concepts; to test task performance skills; to test thinking and logical reasoning abilities; and to test the ability to apply learned knowledge to solve related problems.

The content of the exam questions aims to assess the ability to understand basic knowledge related to the field of Mathematics; the ability to read, think, and reason logically in that subject through provided data and learned knowledge; and the ability to apply general knowledge to solve related problems.

The question structure is as follows:

V-SAT Exam Structure

Regarding scoring, the exams are graded using both raw scores and competency scores. A candidate's raw score is the total score they achieve based on the number of correct answers to each question sub-item. For true/false and matching questions, each question has 4 sub-items; each correct answer is worth 1.5 points. For short answer questions, each correct answer is worth 6 points. The total score for each exam is 150 points.

In this test, to achieve the maximum score, candidates must answer all 85 sub-questions correctly; this is a distinguishing feature and also an advantage of the V-SAT test format.
