Sharing with VietNamNet , Ms. Vu Thi Thanh Binh, Head of the Foreign Language Group of To Vinh Dien Secondary School (Dong Da District, Hanoi ) commented that this is a good 10th grade exam this year, suitable for students, with clear content that closely follows the goals and requirements of the 2018 General Education Program.
“The test is suitable for the ability of average to good students, not too easy or too difficult, easy, easy to breathe, creating a comfortable mindset for students to do the test when they have good background knowledge. The test not only tests language knowledge but also focuses on students' ability to apply, think, analyze, and synthesize through diverse types of questions. The test is also practical, suitable, and close to life, helping students develop the ability to apply knowledge in practice, classifying and accurately assessing students' abilities," Ms. Binh assessed.

According to Ms. Binh, the stress, phonetics, sounds, and words are quite basic and familiar, the ability to recognize and distinguish is "adequate" such as the ending 'ed", 2-syllable and 3-syllable words with recognizable endings such as: "tion, ity, al".
The sentence completion, sentence arrangement, reading comprehension, and sentence rewriting sections aim to assess the ability to apply, relate to reality, be creative, and express ideas clearly. The types of questions are also quite familiar, closely following the sample questions published by the Department.
Reading comprehension section, questions have different levels, from clear information recognition to analysis, inference, and evaluation of meaning. Topics: Shopping, teenage passion for music .
In the part of writing sentences/paragraphs according to instructions, according to Ms. Binh, there are familiar structures such as: requiring the ability to write sentences, express ideas accurately, appropriate to the context, and can improve structure and vocabulary. "For example, the connecting sentences in the Shopping lesson are also close to reality. Or the part of writing sentences such as: indirect, relative clause, look forward to V-ing is also very familiar to students", Ms. Binh said.
According to Ms. Binh, the exam is suitable for the requirements of innovation, differentiation according to ability, and highly open. The question types are diverse, from basic knowledge to application, analysis, and creativity, helping to comprehensively assess students' abilities.
“It's hard to use tricks”
Ms. Nguyen Nguyet Ngu, Head of the Foreign Language Group of Thai Thinh Secondary School, assessed that the test focused on basic knowledge, spanning from grade 6 to grade 9, such as pronunciation of the suffix -ed, superlatives, articles, type 1 conditional sentences (grades 6 and 7), indirect sentences (grade 8, relative clauses (grade 9)...
In addition to testing students' vocabulary and grammar, the test also tests paragraph writing skills through choosing a topic sentence and arranging ideas in a paragraph (questions 17, 18, 36-40, code 021).
According to Ms. Nguyet Ngu, to do well on this test, candidates must have a solid grasp of basic knowledge and language skills (Speaking and Writing), instead of using tricks to do the test like in previous years.
In addition, the exam also has questions to classify students, such as questions 12 and 30 in exam code 021.
With this test, Ms. Nguyet Ngu estimated that the average score students can achieve is around 7-8.

Ms. Dinh Thi Bich Lien, Deputy Head of the Foreign Language Department of MVLomonosov Secondary and High School, commented that the test synthesizes skills: phonetics, vocabulary, grammar, communication functions, reading comprehension and sentence rewriting - mainly in the 9th grade program. The test closely follows the sample test matrix that the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has announced, reflecting the spirit of innovation of the 2018 general education program, aiming to assess language proficiency in real-life contexts.
The test formats are generally similar to the curriculum that students regularly review in school, with some adjustments to increase the level of application and classification of students:
According to Ms. Lien, the test has clear differentiation, suitable for the enrollment goals.
Specifically, 65-70% of the questions are at the recognition - comprehension level, helping average - good students to achieve 6-7 points if they have a firm grasp of textbook knowledge. About 30-35% of the questions are at the application - high application level, distributed in the following sections: Collocations, synonyms/antonyms; Grammar embedded in specific communication contexts, in paragraphs, in announcements; Rewriting sentences; Completing paragraphs and reading comprehension with inference.
“It can be said that the exam maintains a stable structure but has a slight increase in difficulty in the vocabulary and reading and writing skills sections. The exam is suitable for the trend of developing language skills, avoiding learning by rote or learning tricks,” said Ms. Lien.
Ms. Lien predicts that students who have a solid grasp of the textbook and practice the questions in a basic way (about 30% of students) will achieve a score below 6.
A score of 7-8 will allow students to have a solid grasp of the textbook and basic practice (accounting for about 50% of students).
The 9.0 – 10 score will exist but is not common because there are some questions that are easily misunderstood and some questions that are clearly classified (accounting for about 20% of students).
“The 10th grade English entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year clearly shows the orientation for capacity development, comprehensively assesses 9th grade English knowledge in the textbooks issued by the Ministry, and at the same time encourages students to flexibly apply language in practice. However, students need to master the differences in grammatical phenomena, grasp the usage of words and vocabulary equivalent to B1 to achieve high scores,” Ms. Lien shared.
