Bu Mera Fort historical relic - belongs to the historical relic cluster of sites of the uprising movement led by N'Trang Long in Tuy Duc district (Relic cluster) in the struggle against French colonialism.
In 2007, the relic complex was recognized as a National Historical Relic. After being recognized, the Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee issued Decision 741 on the detailed planning of the project to restore and embellish the Bu Mera Fort historical relic site, Tuy Duc district, Dak Nong province. On February 17, 2011, the Provincial People's Committee continued to issue Decision 243 on approving the investment project to build works to preserve and promote the historical value of the sites of the M'nong people's struggle against French colonialism led by N'Trang Long.
Accordingly, this historical relic cluster has an area of 42 hectares, spread across the communes of Dak R'tih, Dak Buk So, and Quang Tam, which is zoned and implemented according to the National Target Program on building cultural tourism sites from the State budget.
In 2016, the Bu Mera Fort Historical Relic was invested in the restoration and reconstruction of phase I (at the Bu Mera Fort site) including items such as the gate, fence, ramparts of the fort... with a total area of 28,000m2. The total investment cost of 7.2 billion VND was invested by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dak Nong province. The traditional exhibition house was restored according to the prototype of the ancient village of the M'nong people and is creative as "a living museum". In 2019, the relic continued to be invested in the restoration of a number of items such as the operating house, service and 2 guard towers, electricity and water systems, fire prevention and fighting...
It is worth mentioning that, although not yet handed over, some items of the Bu Mera Fort Historical Site have been damaged and not repaired. Specifically, the thatched roofs of the watchtowers have been torn off and rotten. A section of the wooden floor right under the hut built of wood has a large black hole burned. The electric lights in the hut are also damaged and/or missing... In the traditional house, there is a very strong musty smell due to not being opened for a long time. The house is empty, there are no tools or artifacts to introduce to visitors when they come to visit. In 2020, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism had a policy of handing over to Tuy Duc district for management, however, the district did not accept it because the items of phase 1 and 2 had been invested but not completed, not synchronized, and had not been finalized; the invested items were degraded and damaged and had not been repaired.
Regarding this issue, Mr. Nguyen Van Toan, Vice Chairman of Dak Buk So Commune People's Committee said: "Currently, Bu Mera Station is managed by Dak Nong Provincial Museum and has not been handed over to the district or locality. However, every month, the commune organizes for youth union members to come and clean up. On important holidays, it also organizes for students and tour groups to visit the relic to review the nation's fighting tradition..."
Speaking to Dak Nong Newspaper reporter, Mr. Le Ngoc Quang, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dak Nong province said: "The Bu Mera Fort relic site belongs to the National Target Program on Cultural Development and the funding source is allocated in stages according to the State budget. The project is divided into 2 phases and there are still some items
The project has not been implemented yet, so it cannot be handed over to Tuy Duc district for management. On the other hand, the approved design requires the use of original materials, so the relic uses paintings, bamboo, and rattan as the main materials, and cannot be replaced with other materials, which have degraded over time. Meanwhile, the maintenance and repair budget is still limited, depending on the budget. In 2023, the unit has a plan to restore and repair, and at the same time, the department continues to direct the Provincial Museum to grasp the reality and hire a security guard to look after the relic.
