A place that preserves revolutionary history
In September 1945, Dong Tran weapons factory was established. This was one of the first weapons factories in the South Central region. The production facility was located at the rubber processing factory of the French plantation owner Boulanjot, surrounded by departments: Forging - casting, weapons, explosives mixing, grenade making... The factory had more than 50 workers from many different professions joining the military industry, led by two comrades Nguyen Xuan Thang and Phan Ba Dong. After that, the factory was organized into production lines including: Machine - cold - electricity - lathe - casting - welding - hammering - chemicals...

The workshop's machinery and equipment were mostly taken from the Phu Xuan Long garage donated to the revolution by Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Vinh and Phan Huu Loc. The workshop repaired rifles and machine guns, made submachine gun parts, pressed bullet casings, researched and produced all kinds of ammunition and ammunition, and produced grenades. Initially, comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang suggested naming the workshop Nguyen Truong To, then changing it to Van Trang workshop. However, everyone still called it Dong Tran workshop. In November 1945, during a test of a newly produced grenade, comrade Phan Ba Dong sacrificed his life; then comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang was also injured and sacrificed his life. Acknowledging the sacrifice of the two comrades, the workers decided to call Dong Tran workshop Dong - Thang workshop to commemorate those two comrades.
Dong Tran military workshop not only repaired and produced weapons during the resistance war against the French, but it was also a place for military training of soldiers; a place for propaganda and revolutionary enlightenment in the locality. After the 101-day and night event (October 23, 1945 - February 1, 1946) of resistance war against the French by the army and people of Nha Trang, facing the attack of French colonialists, the Party, mass organizations and Front agencies in Dai Dien withdrew to Dong Tran. On the morning of February 2, 1946, from Thanh, the French army launched a large-scale attack on Dong Tran to destroy the provincial headquarters and armed forces, but encountered resistance from our army, so the French army had to withdraw to Thanh...
Proposal for renovation and embellishment
The Dong Tran Military Arsenal Memorial Site is currently protected in an area of over 949 square meters . The land has a relatively flat terrain, but all of the relic's construction items have been severely degraded. Most of the relic's area is natural ground, overgrown with grass and about 1 meter lower than the asphalt road in front; the relic's campus has no protective fence; the location of the relic's stele is offset and lower than the overall area of the land; the relic's stele is moldy and peeling; the yard around the stele has collapsed; cracks appear on the steps; the brick-built flower pots are cracked and severely damaged...

It is known that on August 13, 2024, the Provincial People's Committee issued an official dispatch proposing a list of priority projects for relic restoration in the period of 2024 - 2025. The content of the official dispatch assigned the Department of Culture and Sports (now the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism) to establish an investment policy for the restoration of 23 relics, including the restoration of the Dong Tran Weapon Factory Relic. In early October 2025, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism submitted a report to the Provincial Appraisal Council on the proposed investment policy for the project to restore the Dong Tran Weapon Factory Relic with an estimated cost of more than 1.9 billion VND from the provincial budget. The restoration of the Dong Tran Weapon Factory Relic was also determined to be consistent with the local land use planning, making an important contribution to promoting the value of the relic, serving well the propaganda and education of revolutionary traditions, as well as the political , cultural and social tasks of the locality. On the other hand, when the restoration of Dong Tran Military Factory relic is completed, it will help Khanh Hoa Provincial Cultural Heritage Conservation Center to more conveniently maintain, manage, protect the relic, and prevent its degradation according to the annual and phased roadmap...
When the Dong Tran Military Arsenal relic is restored, repaired and embellished, this "red address" will promote its historical and cultural values, serve well the propaganda activities, educate revolutionary traditions for the young generation and enrich the tourist attractions and research on the history and culture of Khanh Hoa province.
