African swine fever has decreased sharply but still has the potential risk of recurrence

The epidemic occurred in most communes and wards in the province, affecting 1,614 households with a total of 14,603 sick pigs that had to be destroyed, including 2,033 sows and 12,570 pigs, with a total weight of 610,192 kg. Compared to September, the number of pigs destroyed decreased by 82% (equivalent to a decrease of 66,485 pigs and a weight decrease of more than 2.9 million kg).

As of October 14, 2025, the whole province recorded 175,341 pigs infected and destroyed due to ASF with a total weight of more than 8,382 tons occurring in 56 communes and wards in 1,217 villages and hamlets, affecting 26,108 farming households.

Thanks to the synchronous implementation of epidemic prevention and control solutions such as promoting propaganda, closely monitoring, and setting up checkpoints to control livestock transportation, the spread of the epidemic has been significantly limited. As of October 14, the whole province had 669 hamlets that had gone 21 days without new cases.

However, the Department of Agriculture stated that although the number of cases and culls has decreased significantly, the disease still appears sporadically in some old outbreak areas, with the potential risk of re-emergence. The recurrence of the disease not only affects the total herd but also directly impacts the production activities and livelihoods of farmers.

Professional agencies recommend that people continue to proactively clean and disinfect barns, and not be subjective or negligent in disease prevention work. At the same time, strictly follow the instructions of the veterinary sector to protect the safety of livestock and stabilize livestock production in the province.
