On the morning of July 17, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) announced the 2024 high school graduation exam scores. Candidates can now look up the exam results, providing additional grounds for registering for admission to universities and colleges of preschool education in this year's admissions period.
Increase - decrease insignificant
Evaluating the exam results, the Department of Quality Management (Ministry of Education and Training) said that in general, the score distribution of the exam subjects remained stable and similar to the score distribution of previous years.
According to Dr. Nguyen Quoc Anh, Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, the average score of all subjects is between 6-8 points, with foreign languages still having a lower score than other subjects, but still slightly higher than last year's score.
Some subjects had a slight but insignificant decrease in scores: chemistry (6.68 compared to 6.74, down 0.06), biology (6.28 compared to 6.39, down 0.11),civics (8.16 compared to 8.29, down 0.13). The remaining subjects all increased slightly: math (6.45 compared to 6.25, up 0.2), literature (7.23 compared to 6.86, up 0.37), foreign language (5.51 compared to 5.45, up 0.06), physics (6.67 compared to 6.57, up 0.1), history (6.57 compared to 6.03, up 0.54), geography (7.19 compared to 6.15, up 1.04).

The number of candidates with scores of 9 and 10 tends to decrease compared to 2023, in which this year literature has 2 scores of 10, while math is the only subject without a score of 10.
MSc. Cao Quang Tu, Director of Admissions at Saigon International University (SIU), assessed that this year's exam score distribution showed that the increase - decrease in subject scores compared to 2023 was insignificant, with 6 subjects increasing and 3 subjects decreasing slightly compared to the general score distribution in 2023, in which English continued to maintain the last position.
The benchmark will stabilize.
Based on the exam scores and remaining quotas for the high school graduation exam method, many universities believe that this year's benchmark scores will not fluctuate much. Candidates should refer to the benchmark scores of the past two years as a basis for setting appropriate preferences.
According to Dr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, Head of Training Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, based on the high school graduation exam scores and the remaining quota for the high school graduation exam results of universities, the fields and professions that consider the subject combinations C00, C01, D01, A01 will have a standard score increase of 0.5-1 point; the industry group considering the A00 combination will increase by 0.25-0.5 points; with the B00 combination mainly used for admission to the biomedical industry, the standard score may decrease slightly due to the decrease in chemistry and biology scores.
According to Dr. Nguyen Quoc Anh, based on the score distribution of each subject, it can be seen that the score distribution of some traditional combinations such as A00 (math, physics, chemistry), A01 (math, physics, English), C00 (literature, history, geography), C01 (math, literature, physics), D01 (math, literature, English) increased - decreased insignificantly, likely only fluctuating at 0.5-1 point. Accordingly, it can be predicted that the benchmark scores of the schools will be stable, without too much fluctuation compared to last year or if there is, it will be within a very small range, depending on the allocation of quotas according to the admission methods of the schools.
For example, in 2024, the allocation of quotas for admission based on high school exam scores for a certain major of a school is equivalent to that of 2023, so the admission score this year may be similar or only slightly fluctuating. However, if the total admission quota based on high school exam scores is adjusted up or down, the admission score for that major based on high school exam scores will also tend to increase or decrease accordingly.
MSc. Cao Quang Tu also commented that the expected benchmark scores for the combinations may fluctuate between 0.5-1 points compared to the general level in 2023. However, the combinations that lean towards natural sciences including physics, chemistry, and biology may decrease slightly but are forecasted to be insignificant.
Mr. Tu also noted that when making admission wishes, along with comparing the difference in the floor score and the standard score of the previous year, candidates should consider the quota of the majors they want to make wishes for, the ratio between early admission methods and considering high school exam results to have a more scientific basis. In addition to the school brand or "hot" major, candidates also need to carefully research the learning environment, support policies, and scholarships to prioritize. In addition, pay special attention to important timelines for registering wishes, paying fees on the common portal and confirming admission upon receiving admission results.
Online consultation: Know your exam scores and set appropriate preferences
On July 17, the Ministry of Education and Training announced the high school graduation exam scores, the score distribution of exam subjects, and the common admission combinations. To review the score distribution of exam subjects as well as predict the standard scores for university admission and guide candidates based on their exam scores to register appropriate and accurate wishes, Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper organized an online talk show - consultation "Knowing exam scores, setting appropriate wishes", at 9:30 am on July 18.
Guests included Dr. Nguyen Duc Nghia, former Vice President of Ho Chi Minh City National University; along with representatives from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance (UEF), University of Finance and Marketing, Nguyen Tat Thanh University, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH).
